Toffee apples – who doesn’t associate these with childhood memories of fairs and fun and sun, crunching into their golden or red exteriors – that contrast of slightly sour apples and the sticky sweet toffee.

Toffee apples are an unusual and fun addition to the tables at the reception, set sedately at each place setting ready for the guests to take home as favours.

They can be wrapped in clear or coloured cellophane and tied with ribbon that matches the colour theme of the wedding. The can be crowded into shallow tin buckets, baskets or tucked in amongst foliage and autumn berries in the table centrepieces.

Try putting them on a dessert table amongst colourful sweets like berry desserts, berry or butterscotch ripple icecream, sorbets, mango mousse – it’s up to your imagination!!

Setting them up amongst treats from our school days – honeyed popcorn, gob stoppers, huge colourful lollipops and jelly beans will bring back fond memories of sticky fingers and secret stashes hidden in warm grubby school uniform pockets.
