Groom Style: What the F* Do I Wear?

by

This week Polka Dot Groom is going to be joined by the queen of groom style- the sassy and clued in East Side Bride. East Side Bride is going to share some key groom style looks and have a little fun along the way! Today she’s starting us off with some good advice.

The key to finding your style is to be yourself.  Don’t try to change who you are, just improve on the personal style you’ve already got.

Don’t let the bride dress you up like a Ken doll if you’re not a tuxedo guy.  But if you’ve always dreamed of getting married in Armani, speak up!  It’s your day too.

You might be surprised what you can find on ebay or at a consignment store.  My husband was fixated on a Jil Sander suit he saw in Wallpaper, and I managed to find it used for $200.

I recommend GQ’s Style Guy column for the basics on suits and blazers, plus formalwear advice that will keep you from looking like a waiter or a Whiffenpoof.

East Side Bride is going to be dropping in a lot this week, but you can see more stylish groom looks on her blog East Side Bride.

I couldn’t agree more. My fiancé and I just went to the tailor and had him a military-style shirt made. Absolutely unheard of for a wedding here but it’s his style and he’ll look so cool!

My husband looked for a pin stripe three piece suit all over the city that wouldn’t break the bank, so kudos for you! $200 for a suit like that is a steal. Do you mind sharing where you bought it?

PDB- thanks for visiting my blog! :)

Agreed, and glad you’ve got East Side, she is the queen! Mine wants a NICE suit, and you know what? He gets it. He’ll rock it at work for years, unlike my dress, so I’m totally fine with spending on it.

All I have to say is that I am glad my fiance will be rockin his military dress whites! Its been a nightmare trying to figure out what to have the non military groomsmen wear – and they aren’t even picky! Oh – and am I the only one who knew who the whiffenpoofs were from Gilmore Girls? =)

Totally agreed. If us brides get to pick what we get to wear, we shouldn’t make the grooms wear something that they wouldn’t wear. We went with a suit for my husband as he is so not a tux guy. He was set on a three piece suit for the Jamaica wedding and we finally found one. I think he will look perfect as it is totally his style.

I agree with all the comments (and East Side Bride!) Wear something YOU want to wear! (Of course I may just draw the line at crocs but that’s me!)

Guilty I love the sound of the shirt!

    You ladies rock!

Amanda, the suit came from Wasteland, one of my favorite stores in LA. He tried on a Prada and several others (all $200-300 used) but Jil Sander won by a mile.
