Lucie and Cameron

I have such a divine wedding for you today full of beautiful, heartfelt details. If you love butterflies, you’re going to love today’s wedding!

Lucie and Cameron met whilst sharing a house in their hometown of Sydney. They chose to marry in Queensland, close to their families.

Lucie says, “The wedding was held in January in the beautiful garden of my parent’s home in Pullenvale, a suburb of Brisbane. Their home is very special to us and we have many happy memories of time spent there. Cameron and I are both very close to our families so it was wonderful to have an intimate wedding at home that reflected that.  We are also both very much into nature so a garden wedding seemed appropriate.

The property is called Booroondah and has a lovely old “Queenslander” house set in a beautiful garden. The ceremony was held on the back lawn overlooking the dam. Following the ceremony, the guests celebrated with champagne and canapés before moving to the reception in a clear marquee filled with red and pink lanterns.”

Photos today are by Todd Hunter McGaw.

Being an illustrator and designer, Lucie created most of the details herself. “It was important to me to make the wedding as personal as possible by reflecting my creative side. As the wedding was held in a garden I themed everything with butterflies, birds, bees and flowers (anything garden-y). The colour theme was red, pink and purple as I love bright colours and those are such passionate colours.”

Lucie’s dress was made by Bernadette Green Couture and was hand painted with butterflies by Lucie. She carried a bouquet of purple orchids. Lucie says “My wonderful bridesmaids and I arranged all of the flowers ourselves and had the best time in the process. It was really worth going to the trouble to do things like that ourselves as everyone got to share special moments and it felt as though we had all contributed to the making of the wedding.”

Lucie made the groom, best man and both father’s boutonnieres using vintage millinery flowers and hand made insects. Both bridesmaids and both mothers also wore wrist corsages made from feather butterflies, so every important person in the ceremony wore an insect of some kind.

Lucie says of photographer Todd “As we live in Sydney most of the wedding planning was done online. Cameron and I really wanted wedding photos that were interesting, natural and reflected our personalities. As soon as I found Todd’s web site I stopped looking, his style was perfect. The photos are so beautiful and really make you feel as though you were there. We feel so lucky to have had Todd photograph the wedding, what wonderful memories he’s captured.”

Lucie says “I walked down the aisle to a flamenco version of the bridal waltz which was played on a guitar by the very talented Brisbane musician Cameron Ford. It was so relaxed and romantic and suited the garden setting perfectly.” Red and purple lanterns hung from trees overhead and little butterflies decorated the chairs.

Lucie says of the wedding ceremony “The most touching moment for me was when were said our vows, we had written them ourselves and, as a result they meant so much to us. We both choked up with tears in the same section.”
