I don’t think it’s much of a secret how much I love Bedarra Island Luxury Resort. It’s been my number one pick ever since I started writing Polka Dot Bride and just the kind of place I dream of visiting one day.. with a suitcase of books and sunscreen in hand for lazy days of quiet bliss. It’s also the perfect destination for a luxurious Australian honeymoon.

Located in tropical North Queensland, right off the coast of Cairns, Bedarra Island is short boat ride away from Dunk Island (or seaplane if you prefer!).

As part of your package at Bedarra Island, all meals are included – gourmet three course breakfasts, lunch and dinners will be sure to have you taking plenty of afternoon naps. The menu is changed daily with plenty of fresh seafood. Dine indoors or catch the cool breeze as you dine beside the resort’s pool.

The luxurious treats aren’t just in the restaurant – the resort’s lounge area includes a 24 hour self service bar including a range of spirits, wines and sweet treats for guests to enjoy (as well, there are many cocktail bibles so the staff can whip up your favourite!)

There’s no reason you have to see anybody else for the duration of your stay though, Bedarra can arrange plenty of private dining options – gourmet getaway picnics and a table for two under the stars on the beach.

Bedarra Island Resort has only 16 villas and since it’s limited to adults only, there will be no more than 34 guests at any one time at the resort. The villas are dotted throughout the rainforest, some set right on Hernandia Bay while others are surrounded by the lush greenery of the surrounding rain-forest. The accommodation is grandly appointed with the highest level (The Pavilions) featuring king sized beds, Bose sound systems, walk in shower, deep bath, mini bar,  personal laptop with 3G wireless internet, private heated plunge pool and daily delivery of Bollinger champagne (that’s an entire bottle, you read that right!) and canapes at sunset to your room.

The Hillside Villas (the more friendly on the hip pocket rooms) are nothing to be sneezed at either, double storey layouts provide ample room with filtered water views, separate bathrooms, Bose sound systems and set into lush tropical rainforest.

If lazing on your deck looking out over crystal blue waters becomes a little tiresome,  there are no shortage of activities to sustain a wandering mind. You might indulge in a treatment from the resort’s private spa- Biagurra Spa (also available in the privacy of your villa), go deep sea fishing, play a game of tennis on the resort’s courts, go snorkeling, paddle boarding or take a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The resort’s lounge also stocks a wide range of books, CDs and DVDS for some low key entertainment (maybe I don’t have to bring that suitcase of books after all?)

Bedarra Island offers special honeymoon packages including champagne and chocolates, spa treatments, a private dinner for two and even gourmet picnic adventures. (If you’re planning to be a destination bride, they even do beautiful weddings!)
