The “inland Tsunami” hits Toowoomba on Monday

My head has been elsewhere this week- it hasn’t been on weddings. If you’ve been close to a news station this week, you’ll have heard the news that 5% of Australia was under water during the week. The floods have slowly been moving down Queensland and this week hit Brisbane. Lives have been lost, businesses absolutely destroyed- it has been a dark week in Australia.

As the water starts to recede the cleanup has only just begun, there are over 26,000 homes which need to be cleaned out and rebuilt- not to mention the businesses (including a popular wedding venue having to be set adrift) and lives rebuilt.

I’m not personally affected by the floods- but they happened in the country in which my heart lives. The country where I grew up, the cities where we spent childhood vacations.

Together with Switchcities who raised over $2800 for Hope For Haiti, we’re having a print sale to raise money for QLD Flood Relief. Some of the best photographers in the world (Including Marina Miller, Scotty Perry, Gabe McClintock, Kip Beelman and more) have gotten together and donated prints to be sold with all proceeds going to QLD Flood Relief. Each print is priced in $US

There will be more prints going up throughout the weekend, including some more from fantastic Australian photographers. All are available for you to purchase. You can see & buy all of the Switchcities QLD Flood relief photographs here (bookmark it as more are being added!)

I would love to see every single one of these beautiful prints sold and the Polka Dot Bride and wider photography community be able to make some sort of difference to the tragedy that has been unfolding on Australia’s shores.

On another note-  Pakistan has also experienced incredibly devastating floods this week. You can donate to them here.
