As a makeup artist a lot of grooms are asking me for beauty tips for their big day as well. My thought? Well, it’s your day too, so they’re allowed to be a bit metro, just for a day! In order to look your best for your big day, your routine is very similar to your dream girl’s.

Here are a few tips to get you looking unbelievably handsome!

  • Skincare A daily skin routine will do wonders for your skin. This should consist of cleansing (washing your face), moisturising (face cream) and sunblock (for the day), and shouldn’t take longer than 2 minutes morning and evening. Once a week, in addition to this, exfoliate and masque. Once a month, book yourself in to your beauty salon of choice, for a cleansing facial. For those who think this is a bit too much trouble, then I would suggest cleansing, moisturising with a suitable face cream and sunblock. Or for the REALLY simple routine, cleanse and moisturise. By the way, cleansing with a soap doesn’t count, it needs to be a proper cleanser! A good beauty salon can recommend the correct products for you and believe me, it’s worth investing in some good products. Remember, if you look after your skin, it will repay you by making you look 10x hotter!
  • Hair Getting a regular hair treatment and cut is the key. Make sure it’s a professional who does the job though … it makes a difference! A good cut prevents split ends and also ensures your hair is cut ‘correctly’ each time. Hairdressers can get a bit expensive at times (for us girls anyway!), but I will guarantee you won’t regret investing that 30 minutes every 6-8 weeks, for a few months before the big day. A nice cut, treatment (and colour if you’re really into it) will make you look your best for the big day. The added bonus is you score brownie points from your Mrs for making the effort! You can also purchase hair treatments from the hairdresser and DIY at home if you’re time challenged. If you want to keep it organic (and cheap!) try warming up some olive oil, massage it into your hair, leave it for a few minutes then wash your hair as normal.
  • Makeup This one might not be for everyone but trust me, its worth it! You’ve spent all that money on the venue, photographer, videographer, flowers, celebrant (and the list goes on!), your girl looks stunning, everyone is happy and there you are, standing there with those dark eye circles from the stag party. Get the makeup artist (and no, your sister or mum’s makeup is not the same and it won’t suit your skin!) to give you a very natural looking coverage with a bit of tidy up here and there. This means foundation, powder and bit of brow shaping (if needed of course). You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes!

So there you have it! It’s not THAT hard, you just need to know what to do and I can promise you, you’ll look 100% better! After all, I always tell my boys, you don’t want to be in trouble for ruining the photos by looking blotchy and tired while your girl looks amazing!

Ms Gingham says: I know it all sound like a lot of effort but it should only take a couple of minutes and it will make the world of difference! Great advice from Amy.
