Heather and Greg

A day in the park sounds like the perfect Saturday to me and today’s couple Heather & Greg celebrated their engagement with photographs in the park with their furry family. Catherine Dyhin joined the couple with Millie and Archie for a splendid day in the Sydney sun!

Heather tells the story of “Heather and Greg”. “Greg and I met in 2008, when we started work at the same digital agency on the same day. Greg was an English backpacker who’d come to Australia two years previous and, in his words, “forgot to leave”, and I’d just moved back to Australia after seven years in the US.

We didn’t interact much at first, as we were working on different projects and in different teams, but one Friday he’d worn a jacket to work and at the regular beer o’clock and I decided to give him a hard time about it. That seemed to break the ice a bit, and somehow I convinced him to take me out with him after work, so I could meet his banker friends.

I ended up meeting those friends, but wasn’t really interested. I was smitten with Greg from the second we left the office.

He proposed to me last April while his parents were visiting from the UK. We’d gone to dinner at Kingsley’s Steakhouse in Woolloomooloo with them, as well as my parents and my stepsister and brother-in-law. Naturally, this kind of setting isn’t one I was expecting to be proposed to in, so I was clueless. The night, for him, was a comedy of errors, with his plans of proposing between the mains and dessert being thrown into chaos by a red wine spillage by not only him, but my dad as well. While they were getting cleaned up, my Dad started hassling Greg about when he was going to ask – as he’d already asked his permission months before. He hinted that he might have the ring in his pocket right then – which obviously, he did! The proposal was to the point, but still over the top romantic – which is exactly his style.

Three years after meeting, we live in Leichhardt in a beautiful house with our two schnauzers, Millie and Archie. They had our shoot with them because they are a huge part of our life and bring so much joy to the world, which you can see in the photos. I was really surprised at how well-behaved they were! We took the photos at Pioneers Memorial Park in Leichhardt, where we walk them every day of the week. It was complete with a guy playing the ukelele, who saw us taking photos and started playing love songs. It was a great afternoon!

We don’t work together anymore (although after leaving that first agency we ended up working together at another for a year!) and although I’d never take back any of it, I will say that spending work hours apart is a *lot* less stressful.

We’re getting married in October in Sydney, working with some wonderful vendors that we’ve found, for the most part, through blogs like Polka Dot Bride, Twitter and online. We’ve got guests coming from all over the world – Greg’s friends and family from the UK and my friends from the States, as well as guests from all over Australia.”
