Jessica and Nick

Queensland, the Sunshine state has a special way of injecting vibrant colour into weddings and today’s celebration? Well it’s bright, cheerful and doesn’t shy away from embracing the warm, colourful hues that go so beautifully with the state’s warmer weather.

Jessica recalls how she met Nick. “We first met when I was on a student placement at the hospital where Nick was working. I remember Nick being really nice and funny, but nothing more, and obviously I was just a student to him. 2 years later, I took up a position at the same hospital and the first person I was introduced to was Nick. And we instantly hit it off, much to the delight of all our colleagues who were entertained by the whole relationship unfolding!”

Today’s photographs are by Naomi V Photography. I love how Naomi brings images to her work that are almost out of a fashion magazine but doesn’t lose any of the stolen moments either. So fresh, bright and cheerful!

The day started off with a wonderful surprise for Jessica. She recalls “Unfortunately, one of my bridesmaids was unable to fly out to Australia for the wedding, as she was days away from giving birth in Ireland. I received a phone call from her in the morning, just as a big bunch of flowers and a bottle of champagne was being delivered to our door.”

Jessica paired her Adorae by Sottero & Midgley (bought from Strictly Bridal at Robina) with magenta coloured Wittner heels. Her bridesmaids wore magenta bridesmaids frocks made by a family friend. Allure Professional Hair and Makeup created the girl’s wedding day looks.

Jessica had many parts of her family with her, including in her gown. “My mum and grandmother sewed onto my lining of my dress, a love heart created from a blue floral material from a dress worn by my nona when she first met me as a baby, the lace from my mother’s wedding dress, and a button from my grandmother’s wedding dress. My engagement ring was also given to Nick by his mother.” The vibrant floral arrangements were styled by Karen at Tugun Village Florist.

Jessica’s favourite moments of the day included, “Being surrounded by our family and friends, being married in the same church as my parents, my gorgeous bouquet that brightened up the day, all of the speeches that were perfectly funny, charming and not too long! And just knowing that the whole wedding was just perfectly ‘us’ – all that we had hoped for and more.

Fellow workmates squashed any nerves Jessica had “I only started to feel really nervous as we pulled into the street with the church. Once we pulled up outside the church, I could feel the tears beginning to well in my eyes. As we looked out the limo windows, we saw a welcoming committee formed by all the cleaners and wardsmen from work, with mops on their heads waving cleaning cloths in the air! I couldn’t help but laugh and I’m so thankful they were there to stop the tears! From then on, the ceremony was light-hearted and happy and was only made funnier when Nick couldn’t get the ring on my finger!

Jessica recalls “Dad walked me down the aisle to “Question” by Old 97s. I wanted a song that was upbeat, so I wouldn’t cry! It’s a cute song about asking and saying yes to a question once in your life.”

Jessica and Nick were married at in Calvary Catholic Church, Miami. Jessica says “While it isn’t one of the most magnificent of churches, Calvary Church has featured in many important family occasions. My parents, aunties and uncles were married there, and myself, my brother and my cousins were baptised there.”

Jessica describes the wedding day as “A perfectly happy, bright, joyous occasion that we will never forget.

Jessica remarks “We had an amazing day with not a cloud in the sky, in between weeks and weeks of rain. We went to Pizzey Park for our photo shoot and Naomi V captured so many amazing shots there.”

Of their photographer, Jessica recalls “We found Naomi V after our original photographers cancelled on us! It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Friends of ours recommended her and we are so grateful. Naomi traveled down to our house to meet with us, and again for our engagement shoot. She is very personable and relaxed – which is just what you need when posing for the first time in your lives! Her photography is amazing and we still have people telling us how gorgeous our photos turned out. We would highly recommend her. She exceeded all our expectations.”

Jessica and Nick celebrated with their guests at Pointbreak Bar & Grill on Burleigh Headland. Jessica remarks.”Pointbreak Bar & Grill is located on Burleigh Headland, overlooking the beach and the coastline right up to Surfers Paradise. It has a laid back contemporary beachy feel and has recently been renovated. There were couches on the deck for people to mingle away from their tables. The staff were great to us and the food was amazing.” Tables were named after famous Queensland beaches.

The reception carried through the bright magenta of the wedding day. Jessica explains, “Julie from Table Jewels decorated our venue perfectly with tealight candles, mirrored table runners and Singapore orchids. She also provided a gorgeous birdcage wishing well that suited the theme perfectly.” A three tier wedding cake was created by Kelly Yusuf from GreenStone Studio.

The reception was filled with dancing, including the newlywed’s first dance. “We danced to “Stolen” by Dashboard Confessional. The chorus sings “you have stolen my heart”.

Congratulations Jessica and Nick! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us today! Thank you also to Naomi V Photography for sharing today’s wedding photographs!
