David and April

David and I met nearly 8 years ago at our mutual friend’s birthday party- a costume party to be precise. He walked in with a leather jacket, gigantic sword and a dashing scar on his eye saying he was this person from a video game I’d never heard of- and me in a gold dress claiming to be the Queen of the Fairies from A Mid Summer’s Nights Dream; a book he had never read. As romantic as it would be to say that our love story began that night unfortunately I can’t say it as we became friends first. However that friendship quickly grew to a very close bond and I knew that somehow, in some way that this man would be in my life forever.

It was another 8 months before David and I became, well, David and I.

It was at his 18th birthday party that I finally realised that I had someone amazing right in front of me and I would be clinically insane to let him slip by. Although he had confessed his feelings to me months before (he had told me in a bid to try to get over said feelings so he could still be friends with me), I was still nervous when I asked him if he’d like to give us a shot. His shocked silence was deafening. It took him a while to understand that finally I felt the same way as him and we didn’t have to stay away from each other any more to insure the other person’s feelings weren’t getting hurt- we could be together and take care of each other. That night we sat up and talked all night, as long as the batteries in our phones would let us- and it was then I knew that he would be the great love of my life.

In the blink of an eye three years had passed and it was my 21st Birthday and I was still lucky enough to be with my David. He had taken me out to my favourite Yum Cha House in the city, just something nice and casual for us to spend time together. Near the end of the meal he gave me my birthday present; I wasn’t surprised when he pulled out a necklace box, after all he did tell me he got me a a diamond necklace for my birthday. As I opened the box I found a lovely necklace indeed, but resting on the chain was a ring. A man’s ring. I was about to laugh at him and tell him I needed to give him a lesson in what diamonds look like when I saw him, on one knee with a smaller box in hand. He spoke of great love and how he wanted me to be with him for the rest of his life, the mother of his children… then he opened the box. It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen…it was  my dream ring… he remembered what I wanted- I had told him what kind of ring I wanted when we first started dating. It was nice to know he was listening.

I was dumbstruck- I mean… It was so shiny! I just sat there looking at the ring and then I .. Just… Laughed. For like three minutes straight, I literally pointed and laughed at David and the ring (in my defence I believe I was in shock!). He was starting to frown… “Is that a yes?” I couldn’t help myself at his distraught look on his face I just howled even harder. “Yes, Yes of course it’s a Yes!”

And so here we are, mere months away from our wedding and we can not be happier or more excited. Getting to do our engagement shoot at Galactic Circus to show who we were as gamers and as people who love getting dolled up in costumes fit us to a tee and let our eclectic personalities shine through. James from XISS photography was amazing, his style is so warm and captivating and he was so utterly supportive during the entire process we just can’t wait to see what he comes up with for our Big Day!
