Sally & Ben

I always fall completely head over heels for a wedding filled with colour, life and happiness like the wedding of Sally and Ben at Toowong Rowing Club.

Sally tells the sale of how she met Ben. “Ben and I met online in 2008. After weeks and weeks of phone conversations and a couple of big bills from Telstra we decided to meet.  Another month later, Ben moved in!  It happened very quickly but we both knew that this was something special. It was a new experience for both of us (online) and we were lucky that we found each other.”

Photographs today are by Moss Green Images (formerly Bec+Fo). I love the clean, fun captures that Fo creates- perfect for such a vibrant wedding! Cinematography shot by Matt Barwick Films  and the wedding planner & stylist was Amini Concepts.

Mary Rose of Lillipollen created the vibrant and beautiful floral arrangements.

Ben and his groomsmen wore suits from Strictly Formal.

Sally wore a gown she purchased from Paddington Brides. She recalls “I loved my dress.  I didn’t have a lot of time to find a dress and after visiting the ladies at Paddington Brides I knew I had found the right people.  We found a dress that I liked and the ladies were able to work around my limited trips to Brisbane and changed things up at the last minute.  They did a fabulous job.” Sally paired it with jewels also from Paddington Brides and shoes from Chinese Laundry.

Sally’s bridesmaids wore silver gowns they had made by a dressmaker along with coral coloured shoes they found at David Jones. They wore Swarovski jewels. The bride and her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup styled by The Powder Room.

Sally and Ben were married at Toowong Rowing Club. They used the gardens for their ceremony. Sally explains “My Mum found the venue after walking around the St Lucia campus with a friend.  We had it narrowed down to two venues, so when I flew down to Brisbane to do some wedding planning we visited each venue.  I chose the Rowing sheds as it felt like a home on the River.  The gardens were beautiful and the venue was a blank space that we could turn into something special. It was completely private and there were no other weddings or events taking place which was the problem I had with other venues – we had the place to ourselves.  It was a magical day.”

Sally says “My wedding was an abundance of colour, flowers, beautiful decor and filled with loved family and friends.”

Sally walked down the aisle to “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young. Sally explains ” I have loved this song forever, so it was the top choice for my walk down the aisle. It feels like it’s washing over you and it’s so calming – exactly what I needed as I was very nervous and excited!” The couple hired Bris City Djs to provide the music at the ceremony.

Sally and Ben were married by Belinda McCartney (0411 037 377) .

Of their photographers, Sally recalls “I found Moss Green images (formerly Bec+Fo) online after searching for ages to find a photographer I liked in Brisbane. I live in Nhulunbuy in the NT, so the internet was my saving grace.  I loved their images so called them up and we were set.  The photos are amazing and I will cherish them forever!”

Sally recalls “The day seemed like a dream, so from start to finish it went amazingly smooth. I had a great morning getting ready with my bridesmaids and family – music playing and a really relaxed mood.  Walking down the aisle with my Dad was a big moment, and marrying Ben was like exhaling.  Living so far away, seeing family and friends is like another gift, so having everybody that we love there was awesome.”

The reception was held inside the Toowong Rowing Club. Sally made sure to give the vision for the wedding to professionals she trusted. She explains ” I definitely wanted a DIY feel to the day, but as I live so far away – I relied heavily on Amini Concepts to provide a certain handmade /vintage feel for the day – they did an amazing job and turned my thoughts into reality. The florist – Mary Rose of Lillipollen, worked with me and turned my concept of handpicked flowers to life.  “

The Tree Space Studio created water colour invitations. Sally remarks “The stationary was done by Amy at Treespace Studios – a handpainted, watercoloured stationery suite that was simply beautiful and so unique.”

The reception was catered by In House Food and Catering. Sally recalls “In House Food and Catering did the most fabulous food I have ever had at a wedding – I swear I’m not being biased but it was amazing! ” The lamington wedding cake was made by Sally’s grandmother.

Bris City DJs played for the guests to a night of celebration. Sally explains “Ben and I really didn’t even want to do the first dance, but we decided to go ahead with it as we did not want to have any regrets.  We chose ‘Love, Love, Love’ by the Avalanches as the words resonated with our new start in life and it’s a light hearted, happy song.”

As a special treat, we have Sally and Ben’s wedding film by Matt Barwick Films. Sally recalls “This is truly amazing work.  Matt did a 5 minute highlights reel as well as filming the entire ceremony and all the wedding speeches.  We were going to just get a family member to do some filming but hiring Matt was the best money spent.  I can’t recommend him enough – stunning, stunning work. Spend the money and get your wedding filmed properly by a professional – I can promise you that you will never regret it.”
