Amy & Scott

This modern wedding had me at salt & pepper, peanut butter and jelly and most of all gin & tonic. The beautiful stationery that wove it’s way through Amy and Scott’s wedding day was the icing on the cake for this country club wedding with an urban edge.

Amy remembers their story. “We met in the UTS Drama Society, where Amy was the President, and Scott was a new recruit. Being possibly the only straight male ever to join the club, it must have been fate. ”

Photographs today are by Matt Reed who delivers candid, clean moments with no fuss- just how it happened! The emotion, the quirks and oh so definitely the party.

Scott wore a suit from J.Crew, each of his groomsmen wore their own black suit.

Imogen Moss designed the black and white invitations and stationery for the day. Amy recalls “Imogen was particularly incredible. So full of love, ideas and time – she is an amazing friend and designer. All the printed materials were designed by her, and she was always completely willing to go over and above to make our wedding as special and unique as possible.”

Amy’s bridesmaids had their hair and makeup styled by Mae You Be while Amy, her mother and mother in law used Doreen Yon from Barely Blushing for makeup and Orieta Pires for hair. One of Amy’s fondest memories was initiated by her father. “Knowing they are my favourite things, my Dad snuck out while all the girls were getting ready on the morning of the wedding to buy us a big box of hot chips with chicken salt. Probably not the best thing to eat pre-wedding-dress, but they went down a treat with a glass of Veuve!
”

Amy’s Christian Louboutin wedding shoes were a complete surprise. She explains “Completely unbeknown to me, my beautiful Mum and sister, Ally, had spent months searching for my perfect wedding shoes, which I had seen a picture of online, but gave up trying to find. A few months before the wedding, after a particularly bad week, I went over to my parent’s house, where they surprised me with a spread of all my favourite food, champagne, and presented to me my dream wedding shoes – the glittery Louboutins! They ended up coming all the way from a department store in the USA – the very last pair available worldwide! It was such a special moment and meant SO much to me. I’ll never forget it and even now when I look at the shoes, I get a little teary!
” Amy’s sister also gifted her a pair on antique earrings to wear.

Amy wore a gown byJoanne Panzarino while her bridesmaids wore different black gowns from Lela Rose.

Amy and Scott held their ceremony at The Breakfast Point Country Club. Amy explains “For our ceremony, we wanted to make sure our venue was relaxed, romantic and elegant.  Amy’s grandmother introduced us to the Breakfast Point Country Club, which we loved because of the harbour views and Hamptons-like style. We felt a bit like we were in an episode of Gossip Girl! Mainly, we really liked the fact that our guests could have a glass of champagne (and a popsicle) at the end of the ceremony to really kick start the celebrations, while enjoying the view!

” White Hot Events coordinated the ceremony.

Amy and Scott hired vocalist Jess Pollard for their ceremony music. Amy recalls “We took a lot of time to pick songs that were really beautiful and meaningful to us. Jess Pollard was amazing, and sung the Across the Universe version of ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ by the Beatles as I walked down the aisle. Apparently there wasn’t a dry eye in the room, largely thanks to her magical voice! When we were signing the registry, Jess sang ‘Stay With You’ by John Legend, and for our recessional, she sang ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ by Hall and Oates. She created such a beautiful atmosphere, and we were so lucky to have her!”

Guests enjoyed personalised popsicles on the balcony from Liana Raine. Amy remembers “Bianca and Aja from Liana Raine created three popsicle flavours for our guests to enjoy after our ceremony, based on some of our favourite foods. They were AMAZING. One was based on Amy’s favourite dessert – sticky coconut rice with mango and salted caramel, another was raspberry which was poached with one of Scott’s favourite beers. The sticks were also personalised, saying “So hot right now,” which was recognition of the sunny day, and a homage to one of our favourite movies – Zoolander. 
- Accompanying the popsicles were personalised napkins which said, “Thanks for being quiet during the ceremony. You look great, by the way.” We thought they were fun ice breakers that our guests would enjoy.”

After the ceremony, the bridal party headed to Sydney’s CBD for photographs.

Melinda Tualima styled the floral arrangements for the day.

Of their photographer, Amy says “Our photographer was Matt Reed, whose work we fell in love with when we first looked at his website! His natural, candid style was exactly what we were looking for, and he also seemed to be able to completely capture the mood of a wedding. We wanted our wedding to be totally fun and full of love, and wanted to find a photographer who could capture that in pictures. Matt was awesome on the day, and we couldn’t be happier!”

One of Amy’s favourite memories was, “Walking down the grand staircase at the GPO building as we were announced as husband and wife was great! We bee-lined for the champagne and oyster bar, which was quite a spectacular way to start the reception!

Amy and Scott held their reception at Prime Restaurant at the GPO Building . Amy explains “For our reception, we really wanted to choose a venue that would be different, memorable and somewhere that would make our guests feel like the special, important people they are. Also top on our list was good food and alcohol. We are both unashamedly food obsessed, so it was super important that we chose a venue that would provide us with something different to the usual ‘beef or chicken’ options. Prime has been voted Sydney’s best steak restaurant for 12 years, and the food and service is out of this world. Coupling that with the gorgeous sandstone interiors, beautiful lighting (there are no down lights – only lamps and candles), and the fact that we could have a whole separate bar as a dedicated dance floor and dessert shrine – we were sold! And we could not have been happier with our choice.”

The tables had a fun “We Go Together Like…” theme. Amy says “Our tables were named after our favourite food combinations. The bridal table was Peanut Butter & Jelly – My (guiltily) favourite sandwich.”

Dinner was definitely a highlight says Amy. “As we sat down to eat our main course (everyone tells you that you don’t eat on your wedding day … That wasn’t the case for us!), we looked around and saw nearly every guest tucking into a steak. It was so memorable and so much fun to see our closest friends and family enjoying the amazing food! We had our guests RSVP on a website (which my talented sister Ally made), where they were also asked to choose what they’d like to eat for their entree and main, and what song would get them on the dance floor. So every guest ate what they would have ordered at the restaurant anyway (90% chose the steak!), and every single person was on the dance floor at some point in the evening, including our grandparents!”

Right after the speeches and before the first dance, a decadent dessert buffet, complete with wedding cake was unveiled. Amy remembers, “With Create Cake by Sharon Brideson, we had designed a cake table full of amazing desserts, which would be unveiled, right before the first dance. When we saw it for the first time, it completely exceeded all our expectations. Though we had designed it, the finished product was so much more amazing (and tasty!) than we could have ever imagined!
”

The first dance was definitely a show stopper. Amy recalls “We wanted our first dance to be really fun and happy, so we chose “Why Don’t You and I” by Santana, which has such an upbeat, celebratory tone. We decided at the last minute to do some lessons with a very good family friend who owns a dance studio, Jenny Burland (of Your Bridal Dance), and she choreographed a really fun and impressive dance which included a few lifts and dips, which we were particularly happy to show off!”

Guests received home brewed beer from Scott’s father called “True Love Brew” from Malt Shovel  in calico, custom printed bags as wedding favors.

Amy says “At the end of the night, once all the formalities were over, dancing with our family and friends was amazing. Everyone was having such a great time, and it was so wonderful seeing everyone’s smiling faces!”
