I adore Broome. I think it offers travellers (and honeymooners!) a lot – sand, sun, glorious water, tranquillity, history, culture, adventure… the sorts of things Australians go looking for overseas, but sometimes forget that they can find in their own backyard. So when thinking about what to write about next for Polka Dot Honeymoons, Broome shot to the top of my list quite quickly. It really is a gem of a destination; a place that revives, teaches, inspires, and opens your eyes to the richness of Australian culture.

If I’ve convinced you, or even intrigued you, take a look at Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa. It’s about a five-minute drive from Broome’s centre and offers a range of accommodation options that are all pretty spectacular. You can choose a studio (with a garden, pool, pool terrace or ocean side view) bungalow (set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens), private villa (comes with an enclosed courtyard and private plunge pool) or luxury suite (for the ultimate indulgence and for those who love Australian art, as they are decorated with artists’ original works and with antiques and exotic artefacts). There’s something to suit every budget.

The resort also offers two swimming pools – one for families, the other reserved especially for adults. Imagine taking up a dip in here on a sunny day. Bliss!

There are three restaurants to try out and the menus have been put together to reflect the area’s Japanese, Chinese, Koepanger, Aboriginal and European influences. The resort says, “When cultures collide, the result is amazing cuisine.” We couldn’t agree more. The Sunset Bar & Grill is relaxed and casual, and here you can see the sun set over the Indian Ocean. What an experience! Club Restaurant is an opulent place to try local dishes under the stars, and Thai Pearl is where you go when you’re feeling like a classic Thai curry and fresh fish. It all sounds delicious, don’t you think?

When you’re finished relaxing by the pool and feasting at the restaurants, you can sweat it out on the tennis court, hit the gym, play golf, or go deep-sea fishing, diving or Harley Davidson riding. If relaxation, health and healing are on your mind, you can visit the resort’s Buddha Sanctuary. It’s the perfect spot to sit and contemplate, or you can do a bit of yoga and Tai Chi if you wish! There’s also a spa and salon, which offers pampering for couples in its peaceful retreat.

I highly recommend getting out and about in Broome and the surrounding areas while you’re here too. Luckily, the resort has a dedicated tours desk and the staff is keen to help you get exploring. From camel rides, town tours, pearl farm visits, fishing adventures, scenic flights, 4WD tours and hovercraft rides, you’ll have the time of your life discovering the stunning beauty and colours that make up Broome and The Kimberley region.

So if you’re looking for a honeymoon in Australia that combines discovery, gorgeous vistas, serenity and a sense of fun, you can stop looking because here it is!
