Designer Craft Project: Floral Handbag

by

Tonal colour blocking and floral prints are two very distinctive styles in fashion this season. This week we are inspired by summer trends and beautiful blooms of spring. See how we used Cristina Re’s Belladonna Bouquet paper for this week’s craft project.

The following handbag invitation is  inspired by the season’s top fashion trends from designers that we love.  Follow our handbag posts to learn how to make them all!

Our inspiration came from Dolce & Gabana all over floral handbags.

Cristina Re Materials:

  • 1 x Sheet Belladonna Bouquet Paper
  • 1 x Sheet Shimmering Pearl Paper
  • 1 x Sheet Flock de Fleur Transparent Paper
  • 1 x Adhesive Bow in Ivory
  • 25cm Grosgrain Ribbon in Ivory

Cristina Re Tools:

  • Cristina Re Paper Trimmer with cutting and scoring blade (optional)
  • Cristina Re Decorative Border Punch (Florentine)
  • Cristina Re Tape Roller
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Sharp Scissors

New Techniques:

Decorative Border Punching

Instructions:

STEP 1. Download the ‘Handbag Invitation’ template from the ‘downloads’ section under ‘Cristina’ on our website at www.cristinare.com.

STEP 2. Print the template onto plain paper and then cut it out. Trace around the template onto the back of the Belladonna paper with a pencil.

STEP 3. Cut around the traced template line on the Belladonna Paper.

STEP 4. Follow steps 2 and 3 and do the same for one sheet of Shimmering Pearl Paper.

STEP 5. Stick the Belladonna cutout and the Shimmering Pearl cutout together. This will ensure that the inside of your handbag invitation is neat and tidy.

STEP 6. Score the folds in the handbag using the Cristina Re Scoring blade on the paper trimmer or use a metal edge ruler placed on the fold line and fold the paper upwards to create a straight crease.

STEP 7. Now for the decorative border punch! Cut a strip of shimmering pearl paper 9.5cm width by 7.5cm. Using the border punch, slot in the paper on the 9.5cm side. Punch down to create 3 shapes. Move the paper along and align the punched shapes with the white stencil on the border punch. Punch down again to create another 3 shapes that make a continuous line. Now we are done with the border!

STEP 8. Stick the border piece onto the inside of the bag flap, with the punched border overlapping the flap edge so that we can see it on the front.

STEP 9. Wrap a band of grosgrain ivory ribbon around the flap of the bag and secure using the Cristina Re tape roller.

STEP 10. Now peel off the tape on the back of your bow and adhere to the front of the flap aligned on top of the ribbon.

STEP 11. What a gorgeous bag! Make your bag into a card or an invitation by downloading the ‘Hand Bag Insert Template’ from the ‘downloads’ section of the website. Insert your own text, print, and cut it out. Then stick onto the inside of the bag.
