It’s such a pleasure to welcome today’s expert Natalie Luke of newly opened boutique Intique & Co. Natalie is the first stockist of high end designer Claire Pettibone in Australia but also stocks other beautiful bridal brands and her services include everything from styling to invitations! A one stop shop if you will! It’s lovely to learn more about this brand new business!

Please introduce yourself to us.

I am Natalie Luke, Founder/ Creative Director of Intique & Co, A Bridal Styling and Wedding/ Event Design Boutique in Brighton.

What inspired you to specialise in all things bridal as a career?

I am constantly inspired by how creative you can be when planning a wedding! Everything from the unique and individual event designing to the dress and fashion styling! There is truly no other industry that gives me the opportunity to do everything I have experience in and everything I love in one role.

You have a bridal gown boutique which stocks Badgley Mischka, Claire Pettibone and Monique Lhuillier. What are the particular qualities you love about these designers’ gowns?

I wanted to offer Australian Brides fresh content by bringing together a contingent of designers that were not yet stocked in Australia. I have been a huge fan of Claire Pettibone for a very long time and feel she has a way of speaking to today’s bride by designing with love and romance in mind and not sticking to trends. Monique Lhuillier is famous for her gown construction and fit and a household name in the wedding gown arena and every dress should be topped with an amazing and comfortable pair of shoes and Badgley Mischka designs were only available online!

Is it best for brides to have an open mind when approaching their wedding dress shopping (or should they have firm ideas in mind?)

I think personally, it’s best to get together some photographs of designs that you like before going out dress shopping, otherwise it can be a little overwhelming. If you get stuck, Take note of your body shape and speak with us about suitable silhouettes that work with your figure!

Is there a trend towards less strapless gowns and more gowns with a detailed neckline or sleeves?

I would say yes! Caped sleeves are huge at the moment along with embroidered or Guipure lace and low, open backs!

Are you seeing more embellishments on wedding gowns – either in beading, or in the fabric itself?

“Mainly detailed Fabric, I’m seeing lots of Guipure lace and sheer fabrics with the beading more reserved for clustered embellishments either in a belt or headpiece.

Another arm of your business is wedding styling. Can you describe the services you offer?

We work with Couples to design their event look and feel, everything from designing invitations to arranging furniture to constructing flowers.

What was the decision behind offering virtually a one stop shop for brides to plan their wedding?

Australian brides are very savvy and very creative but sometimes very time poor. A wedding should be a happy and enjoyable time not a stressful and resentful one. I felt there was a gap in the market between the various different suppliers a bride works with when planning her wedding so I wanted to bridge together all the gaps and create a contemporary, one destination bridal boutique making it easier for brides to work with just one person without compromising time, style or creativity.

What ideas should brides bring with them when approaching you about their wedding styling?

Pictures are great as a base; they may be of people, places or fabrics that they love by which we can draw on for inspiration. It’s important to remember that your wedding is all about you and your partner so starting with even memories can be enough to get started!

What is the process that brides go through with you, when designing their wedding from dress to stationery, flowers and event styling?

We start by getting together with the client, who briefs us on their requirements. We then go about putting together styling concepts which includes things like a mood board, color palette and a costing. We usually present a couple of different designs based on our client’s brief ensuring we capture a very personal and individual reflection of them!

Do you offer a service on the wedding day to make sure all the details are just right?

Yes! We implement all our designs on the day to ensure they are exactly as we designed them along with an event manger to run the event timing if our clients do so wish! And then of course we pack everything up (Which everyone’s always very happy about!)

What new styling concepts do you see as a trend for 2013?

I find event design is very loosely based around that of fashion trends. We certainly look at the recent OS Fashion shows which this coming season show things like chunky knits, pastels and neons!
