Brooke and Niccolo

I am on such a Mexican kick lately – from the food, to the colours, to the life that the culture brings – that I fell head over heels for Brooke and Niccolo’s Mexican fiesta wedding held right beside the beach in Sydney.

Brooke tells their story. “Niccolo and I met in Mexico in 2005, while we were both on solo traveling adventures around Latin America. We crossed paths in a hostel and spent a few magical days together before parting ways – he went back to his hometown of Venice, Italy while I was stayed on in Mexico, working in a hotel. We stayed in touch and I moved over to Italy for two years before we decided to return to Sydney to settle (for the moment!).”

The gorgeous photography today is by Jane Allen who has captured such a warmth, fun feeling to the fiesta wedding!

Niccolo wore a Canali suit with shoes by Croft.

Brooke chose a stunning loose fitting gown from Flannel .

Brooke loved, “Having our family and friends from the world over in the one place, the richness of the food/wine/music, feeling the essence of our travels on home turf, seeing the dance floor packed wall to wall, seeing the sun shine an hour before the ceremony! (It had stormed all morning).”

Bronte Beach Park was chosen as the location for the ceremony, Brooke remarking, “We live by Sydney’s Bronte Beach so we chose the park across the road for the ceremony.”

Brooke can’t remember the music for her walk down the aisle! Remembering “I was too emotional to hear or see anything! We had hired a Mexican mariachi band (Victor Valdes ) to provide the music, so something characteristically nostalgic was probably playing.”

“During the ceremony my father in law, in typical Italian fashion, decided to yell out affirmatives after each vow which was pretty hilarious. Every moment honestly held so much joy and laughter. Beverley Corlett was our angelic celebrant.”

Guests joined the couple for a short walk to the reception.

Susan Avery created a stunning Mexican inspired bouquet, Brooke remarking, “Tash from Susan Avery Flowers made my incredible succulent and floral bouquet.”

Of their photographer, Brooke says “The amazingly talented photographer, Jane Allen has been shooting weddings, events and food in Sydney for about ten years. She is also my best friend, which made the experience all the more wonderful!”

During the ceremony, flowers were collected from the guests, which were then taken by Brooke and Niccolo to the water, Brooke explaining, “We also took a moment to ourselves to make an offering of flowers to the ocean, a ritual we have both adopted after spending time in Brazil.”

The reception was held at Tamarama Surf Club. Brooke explains, “We wanted to create a subtle Mexican, ‘beachy’ vibe so went for lace tablecloths, bright flowers, papel picado, succulents and my favourite, a bamboo mojito bar.” Brooke and Niccolo hired furniture from Decorative Events.

Zed and Bee designed the stunning invitations.”

“Pretty much everything was DIY! We didn’t want a complicated, highly styled wedding, just something that reflected our love of Mexico, and the world in general. The gifts were succulent plants we potted ourselves in collected recycled jars and tins, and everything else was bought on Ebay, at markets, or brought from home. The food was provided by two Venetian chef friends of ours, the wait staff were also friends, plus we bought the flowers that morning at the local deli.”

For their first dance, Brooke recalls “We danced to a live rendition of our favourite salsa song, La Vida Es Un Carnaval. Being a Zumba instructor, I couldn’t help but choreograph something with plenty of cheesy, showgirl moments. Niccolo earned major good husband points for going along with what I made him do!”

Congratulations on your marriage Brooke & Niccolo! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Jane Allen for sharing today’s wedding with us!
