We are SO excited to be joined by a blogging superstar today, and to be talking about her very own gorgeous wedding day! The blog Not Quite Nigella is a regular in the day of thousands of Australian and international foodsters, and the lady behind this scrumptious site is Lorraine Elliott, a cake and food enthusiast who believes that cakes belong in an art gallery!

Lorraine also recently had her equally delectable book, Not Quite Nigella, published by Penguin, in which she shares recipes and an insight into blogging for a living, and the difficulties and joys associated with it. A very busy lady!

We sat down and shared a (virtual) glass of bubbles with Lorraine as she shared her memories and advice from her beautiful wedding.

Tell us about your Wedding!

It was held in Sydney on March 4th 2006. We had our ceremony at Christ Church in Lavender Bay which was a beautiful setting that we fell in love with straight away. We ended up getting our photos taken there because our wedding was the last one that Saturday at 4:30pm. I wore a Collette Dinnigan ivory gown and Manolo Blahnik heels. My husband wore a black suit and a cheeky grin! Our reception was at the Gold Room at L’Aqua which was perfect for our needs as it was a relatively small wedding of 65 guests. Our flowers were by Sweet Violets at Mosman, the red velvet cake was by Be Enchanted Cakes and the photographer was Vincent Lai. I had two bridesmaids: my sister and a friend while hubby had his brother as his best man (who made a brilliant speech on the night). It was a perfectly wonderful evening!

What was your most memorable moment (or moments!)?

There were so many that it’s hard to narrow it down but I think forgetting my underwear at home while dressing at the hotel was memorable-but not in a good way!

If you could change one thing, what would it be?

Apart from remembering underwear? 😉 Hmmm perhaps hiring a videographer to video the wedding. We asked family to do it and for some reason my brother in law pointed the camera to the ceiling after I walked into the church and we didn’t get any of the ceremony 🙁

Who are your favourite vendors?

I really liked the Dockside Group – they really seemed to understand weddings and the pressures involved. Our stay at the Park Hyatt was also wonderful. In fact most of the vendors were fantastic and I would go with them again.

What advice do you have for others planning their wedding?

Be organised!  A friend sent me a spreadsheet that allowed me to keep a track of everything and that helped enormously.

What a gorgeous wedding for a gorgeous couple – we’ve had such fun peeking into Lorraine’s album! If you’d like to follow her fabulous food journey, or pick up a copy of her book, head to her blog, Not Quite Nigella or the Penguin website!
