A bit of fun coming your way today in the Polkadot Travel Lounge! We are joined by the fabulous Anthony from The Travel Tart, a self-proclaimed travel addict who will find any excuse to go travelling. He has travelled to over 50 countries in over six continents – and counting! Anthony is a bit like me when I travel, preferring to risk his life by utilising barely road-worthy forms of transport such as African mini-buses, suicidal Cairo cabs, and flatulent camels. He likes to write about the funny, offbeat, and downright strange aspects of world travel today, and has given us some of his time to talk honeymoons!

 What is your favourite region?

I like going *almost* anywhere! It’s hard to compare different places and regions because each one has something different to offer in terms of culture, food and experiences. I will go to any place where I won’t return to Australia via Coffin Class. I’ve been to out of the way places like Kosovo and Kazakhstan that package tourists avoid like the plague! However, if I want to relax though, I love going to the Pacific Islands, such as Fiji and Samoa. The people there are friendly, life is relaxed, the beaches are nice, and the beer is cold!

Top Resort Recommendation?

I’ve been to a few. It really depends on what you are after. If you like wildlife spotting with luxury, Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa is sensational. If you’re looking to get married or have a couple’s getaway in a stunning tropical location, Tokoriki Island Resort in Fiji will do the job. The water and snorkeling there are great, plus the food is superb. As an added bonus, Monuriki Island is nearby. This was used as the location for the Castaway Movie starring Tom Hanks.

Suggestions for great honeymoon activities.

Once again, it comes down to what you like to do. For example, some couples like lazing around on the beach. Others might feel like trekking for a week in the wilderness. It’s horses for courses! I think the main aspect here is to have fun and just do what you love doing.

The ideal location for a proposal?

If you’re looking to make the proposal and get married in quick time, I would recommend the Drive Thru Chapel in Las Vegas(!). But seriously, it’s a matter of taste. Every couple has a perfect proposal location – as long as the other person says yes! This could be at the top of a mountain, on a beach, or maybe the site of the first date.

Best kept secret honeymoon location?

I’ve been to over 50 countries and have seen and experienced a lot of things. Most people think of tropical locations as an ideal honeymoon location, but the best kept secret honeymoon location is different for everyone. I’d be happy on the beach, or in a vibrant city, or out in the wide open spaces. Take your pick! But if I had to suggest something, I would recommend Lord Howe Island off the east coast of Australia. It’s stunningly beautiful and there is no other place like it!

So many fantastic places and ideas! I’m seriously considering a vow renewal in Vegas now! A huge thanks to Anthony for sharing his top picks and advice with us today, which is just the tip of the iceberg I’m sure!
