Jamie Oliver

Now it’s no secret within my friends and family that I have a little man crush on Jamie Oliver…And I’m ok with that.

This cook book is what I like to refer to as “The Bible”. When my sister actually purchased this for me a long time ago I hadn’t really taken cooking too seriously. But by using this book and actually reading it, it has made me a far better cook than I could have ever hoped to be.

I like to refer to this as “cooking for dummies”. Jamie makes it all so simple, giving you great tips regarding what should be the basics needed in the kitchen. He also takes you through where each cut of meat comes from on any particular beast, basic pasta and gnocchi recipes along with some fantastic seafood.

You can take any of the recipes within this book and put your own twist on it (I’m sure Jamie wouldn’t mind)!

One of my stand-out favourites would be the slow cooked pork belly…mmmm, pork belly…Now this recipe calls for the use of wine for the cooking liquor but why not trick it up a little and use a good English cider ? It makes an awesome gravy to go with the pork, and this winner I’ve served numerous times without complaint.

I have lent this to numerous people who wanted ideas about cooking and it always takes forever for it to be returned. And it’s always nice to see extra little post-its left by the borrowers.

Do yourself a favour and go out and grab it, it should be a staple in your kitchen – just like a good knife and a solid chopping block.

Well played Jamie ….. Well played.
