Caroline in the city header

What a delight to have today’s guest with us – I’m a huge fan of her travel ethos. The lovely Caroline, who has two blogs, Caroline in the City, her personal travel blog, and This Is My South, a travel guide to the southern United States, is an advocate for ‘slow travel’, spending two weeks (or a year) in one place, getting to know it, instead of crossing items off a list. This is exactly how I like to travel – I have a morbid fear of tours where you stay in one place for one night then move on. There’s so much you’ll miss!

The lovely Caroline has given some fantastic tips for a honeymoon that takes it all in! Read on!

What is your favourite region?

As a resident of the southern USA, there’s a lot undiscovered here, particularly by travelers from Europe and Australia. Charleston is my all-time favorite city, followed closely by New Orleans.

Top Resort Recommendation?

Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii is stunning. My sisters, mom and I spent a few days there enjoying poolside drinks and the convenient location to Oahu’s North Shore food trucks.

Suggestions for great honeymoon activities.

Get active and do the things you wouldn’t do at home. Paragliding, scuba diving and zip lining all come to mind.

The ideal location for a proposal?

Somewhere with beautiful scenery but quiet enough for a private moment. The Domain in Sydney is one I’d love to experience.

Best kept secret honeymoon location?

Portugal has been on my radar since before I visited a few months ago. The value with the Aussie dollar is fairly strong and you’ll find that what you would spend back home for a meal is a third of what it is here. Between the food, wine and hospitality, you may never leave. Be sure to check out the Douro region in the north!
