So you want an earthy yet elegant wedding but are a bit over hessian and lace? I have a couple of projects for your reception that will keep the natural feeling you love but amp up the glam factor.

The first easy is this gilded leaf diy wedding place card.

You can use either still green or dried autumn leaves, but keep a couple of things in mind. If using green leaves, don’t gild them too far in advance or they’ll then dry out and could crack the gilding. If using dry leaves, make sure they’re not too fragile as you don’t want them to crumble during the gilding or in transit.

Either way, make sure the surfaces are clean and bug-free (pop them in the freezer inside a bag to kill any nasties).

1. Simply coat the top side of the leaf with your gold leaf pen; set aside to dry.

2. Write on your guests’ names. Allow to dry thoroughly before stacking them together for storage and transport.

There you have it! Two easy steps to some classy but cheap place cards for your wedding or event.

Next fortnight I’ll be back to show you how to make the gilded table number you can see in the background.
