Ellie and Jamie

Ellie and Jamie celebrated their city wedding with plenty of handmade details to truly make it their own. From choosing the ceremony venue at a park they love, to a fun restaurant reception filled with vintage inspired handmade details.

They tell their story. “Jamie and Ellie met while traveling through Mexico. While they traveled as friends it was obvious to everyone else they were destined to be more than just friends. Many late night messages and calls took place after they returned home, Jamie to Adelaide and Ellie to Melbourne. They finally reunited at Falls festival over New Years a few months later and after midnight struck Jamie decided to wait back at Ellie’s tent to confess his love and that he believed they could make this relationship more than a great friendship and work! And he was right… After many more traveling adventures together and living in Canada for a period of time they finally settled in Melbourne. Jamie proposed under stars down at Ellie’s family beach house in Fairhaven where the couple shared their first kiss.”

Maho & Pea captured today’s wedding with beautiful, sensitive images and a quirky twist that only Maho & Pea can deliver.

Ellie wore a Mariana Hardwick gown. She notes “Mariana Hardwick did an amazing job with my dress and the hand beaded belt which made the dress.”

Nicole Groch did an amazing job with all the bridal party plus the mother of the bride, flower girl and sister in law’s make up and hair!”

The DIY started early! Ellie telling, “With the help of my talented mother we made a little ring dish imprinted with ‘love is all you need’ which was also stamped on the wedding invite envelopes.”

“People tell you things will go wrong but it will be ok, and they were right! We had a number of things not quite go as planned, including getting a call the night before the wedding to say the car we had booked was in the auto electricians with a starter motor problem and probably would not be ready in time… However we were given a back up car and we ended up in a blue and white stretch Chevy which Jamie liked even more than the initial car we booked. Nothing that went wrong could take away our smiles or stop the day from being our best day so far!”

Ellie and Jamie married at Darling Gardens Clifton Hill. Ellie recalling, “Deciding on a venue for the ceremony was easy. We knew we wanted it outside and the gorgeous tree lined ‘Darling Gardens’ where we had shared birthdays, picnics and Valentines days was just around the corner from where we live in Clifton Hill so it made the perfect choice for our ceremony.”

The bridal party walked down to Angus and Julia Stone’s ‘Wedding Song’ and Ellie walked down the aisle to the xx ‘Angels’.

“I loved writing our own vows and keeping them a secret. Knowing all the wedding details like the back of my hand I found not knowing this quite hard! But loved the surprise on the day and the beautiful vows Jamie had written.”

“Celebrant Joe Pacquola was everything you could want in a celebrant. He kept everyone entertained, kept the ceremony intimate and told our story like he had been there every step of the way.”

“We made my nephews matching outfits with yellow bow ties and grey suspenders to match the groomsmen’s suit. We had such a relaxed vibe that when my nephew came up and try to pull one of my bridesmaids (my sister/ his mother) away from the alter getting everyone laughing. It made the day even more special.”

Tribal Rose created the bridal party floral arrangements. “Diney did a great job at creating gorgeous posies to match the vintage theme and with very little information on what I was after too.”

“My mother and sister in law spent the morning of the wedding picking up flowers and decorating the venue with which looked amazing. I had made bunting flags saying ‘love’ from material and lace which was my nannies to be hung as the back drop at the ceremony alter but with a busy morning they got forgotten about during the ceremony set up : ) we did manage to get a picture with them though!”

“My something old was a gorgeous cameo bracelet which belonged to my great grandma.”

The groom and groomsmen wore grey suits from Connor. While the bridesmaids wore printed gowns from Cue with Alannah Hill My beautiful life clip belts.

Of their photographers, Ellie says, “They were amazing! We knew as soon as we met them we would be happy to have them share our day. And we were not let down, we both agreed it was the best money we spent! Their relaxed style matched perfectly with what we wanted and the pictures reflected this. Telling our story not just posed pictures. When we got the first glimpse of the pictures we could not wipe the smiles off our faces, they turned out better than we could have hoped!”

Ellie and Jamie celebrated with guests at Fenix Restaurant. Ellie remarking, ” Choosing the reception was a little harder, Jamie was after somewhere with a view and great food was very important to me. When we found Gary Mehigan’s restaurant Fenix in Richmond we knew we had found our venue with floor to ceiling windows and a great seasonal menu.”

Ellie made sure to infuse her love of all things vintage into the reception decor, recalling, “With a love for tea cups when I asked my mother to help me collect over 80, she was some what dubious but took the challenge and did an amazing job collecting a variety of gorgeous antique cups. With each tea cup filled with a dahlia head they fitted perfectly into the vintage theme and a special tea cup and saucer from my grandma and nanny was used as the decoration in front of me making it extra special. ”

“My lovely sister made our ‘just married’ cake topper to fit with our bunting flag theme we had used for the invites.”

Of their first dance, Ellie recalls, “When people tell you things go wrong on the day but it does not matter, our first dance was one of those things that went wrong. We had planned to dance to Alabama Shakes ‘I found you’ but just before we were due to go up and dance the Dj informed us the song file was corrupt and after waiting 30mins to fix the file we gave up and danced to the xx ‘angels’ instead, no one was none the wiser.”

Ellie remembers…. ” Having such a good night that when our leaving song ‘Home’ by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros came on and the guard of honour was formed I felt sad. We did not want the night to end but were so happy with how it went!”

Congratulations on your marriage Ellie & Jamie! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to Maho & Pea for sharing today’s photographs!
