Julia & Michael

I can only describe Julia and Michael’s wedding captured by Jane Allen, as a beautiful peaches and cream celebration. The golden sunlight echoed the couples chosen peach and cream colour palette- right through to their Catalina reception. Thanks to their planner and stylist Scout & Charm they even celebrated with a doughnut wedding cake!

Julia tells their story. “We met at a university O Week party in Melbourne over ten years ago and became close friends over the next year before finally starting to date when we were 19…..a long time ago!

Julia chose a strapless wedding gown by Karen Willis Holmes and paired it with metallic Jimmy Choo shoes.

Julia and Michael chose Vaucluse House for their wedding ceremony. Julia remarking “Vaucluse House was used as the ceremony venue and we had the outdoor ceremony on the Lone Pine Lawn under a beautiful big tree with the house (a beautiful old mansion built in the 19th century) as the backdrop. After the ceremony finished we had drinks and canapés on the lawn for an hour whilst photos were taken around the grounds of the house.”

Julia walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon In D, remarking, “I used to play it on the violin when I was younger so the song has a lot of meaning and memories for me.”

Susan Avery created the floral arrangements for the day – in shades of peach and cream! Julia’s bridesmaids wore cream gowns from Anna Campbell.

Of their photographers, Julia tells, “We used the brother and sister team of James and Jane Allen, who came recommended by our stylists. They were absolutely phenomenal and we couldn’t recommend them more. They made us both feel so comfortable and just silently snapped away in the background all night, getting some beautiful natural photos which captured the night perfectly and weren’t staged (as well as some amazing dance floor shots that we are very grateful to have copies of!). They stayed until the very end of the night and so many people commented to us afterwards on how lovely and relaxed they both were. ”

Julia and Michael chose Catalina for their wedding reception. Julia telling,  “The reception was held at Catalina restaurant in Rose Bay, which is a hatted Sydney restaurant on the water which has a beautiful large balcony overlooking Sydney Harbour and hosts many weddings and other functions. As Catalina is renowned for its fresh seafood, we had an oyster bar on the balcony, and lots of seafood in our canapés, entrees, and main meals.

The food was all presented amazingly, from the oyster bar on the balcony, through to roving canapés, entrees and desserts, and there were beautiful lantern lights hanging from the balcony which looked amazing in the darkness against the harbour.”

Scout & Charm planned and styled the wedding, Julia remembering, “Every detail was thought through with our stylists to fit in with a peach/cream colour theme and incorporate a little bit of vintage with a little bit of modern/cutesy props that we wanted our guests to remember and make our wedding stand out. The reception venue was a beautiful blank canvas for us to work with, meaning we were able to decorate it with props, flowers, favors and stationary that fit with our wedding vision and made it look beautiful but unique… ”

The whimsical details started with the cake, Jane remembering, “We had a tiered donut wedding cake, beautiful cream/peach macarons and bottles of limoncello as favors, peach menus and name tags (all with tandem bicycles on them to link back to our wedding invite design) and seating charts hanging from balloons at the entrance to add that little extra bit of difference!”

“We had cream and peach bunches of flowers on every table, name tags hanging from wine glasses, peach menus on easels and a vintage wooden wishing well on the centre table. The restaurant certainly didn’t look like a blank canvas anymore once Scout and Charm had transformed it! Our photos don’t do the wedding justice – but they are a lovely reminder of the day and make us smile when we look at them as everyone looks so happy.”

Impressions DJs got guests onto the dance floor,  for their first dance, Julia remembers, “We danced our first dance to ‘A whole new world’ from Aladdin. We had a few dance lessons beforehand so we knew a few basic steps (which we just repeated over and over!), and when we looked out at everyone while dancing the whole crowd was singing along to the song – it was a really special moment.”

Congratulations Julia and Michael! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Jane Allen and Scout & Charm for sharing today’s wedding with us!
