Finding that perfect gift for the members of your bridal party, partner or perhaps someone who just went above and beyond in the lead up to your big day is often a challenge. Personalisation is the perfect route for these types of gifts, and today we talk to the lovely Debby from Etsy store 2RoadsDesigns about her gorgeous bespoke items, and her path to creating them. Inspired by travel (a woman after my own heart), her items are perfect for the roadtrippers and the wanderers amongst us!

What was your path to creating handmade/DIY items?

I made gifts for family and friends that got more sophisticated through the years.  They were my first customers and then encouraged me to start an online store.  At first it was just a hobby, but now I have focused on it full-time this last year.

Where do you find inspiration?

My family and friends by thinking of gifts they would like or my travels while I look for ways to remember special places in my life.  It’s what got me started in the first place and it continues to be my inspiration today.

What is the most common question you are asked by couples?

My most common question is usually around customising an existing piece to fit their style.  I love collaborating with customers and creating something so personal and meaningful to them.

What is your favourite colour palette?

I love anything with a neutral base and a bright accent colour; currently cream with Tiffany blue and grey with coral are my favourites.

Do you have a favourite style of wedding (rustic, vintage, modern, classic etc)?

I love the vintage look.  It’s nostalgic and makes a great compliment to other styles.

The tie bar clip is a very popular item and one of my favourites.  It comes in different metals, can be customised in different sizes and contains a hidden message on the back special to that person.

What is your DIY advice for couples?

While style matters, find ways to keep projects simple or efficient to make.  I designed an intricate destination wedding invitation for my sister and it took us ages to make and we almost ran out of time.

What is the one tool you can’t do without?

It would definitely be my paper cutter.  It saves a great deal of time in addition to the fact that I’m a stickler for straight lines.

About Debby: An accountant with creative hobbies to escape her highly analytical work life,  2Roads Designs was a business Debbie started when her family and friends encouraged her to sell the handmade gifts she had made them. She loves creating highly personalised products that people can reflect on a special time and place in their lives. Many of her items are inspired by travel, which was such a big part of her life that it took her and her husband from Seattle, Washington, USA to their current home in Sydney, Australia. “2Roads” represents her two occupations, the two places she calls home and the journeys that life can take us on.
