When it comes to your wedding day, why should the girls have all the fun? That’s what PK Alexander of Oscar Hunt pointed out as I joined him, Marketing Director, Lachie, and Tailor, Jules in their Melbourne showroom on a sunny afternoon.

Sipping a delicious drink from their showroom’s private bar (I kid you not), I sat down with the three dapper gentlemen to discuss why they’re making waves with their made to measure suits in Melbourne (and why grooms can have just as much fun as the brides, when it comes to dressing up for the big day).

Inspired by old world style and service, Oscar Hunt offers a different experience to an off-the-rack suit store, as co-creator PK explains “We really like to provide our clients with that one to one, old world service. When our client comes in here, he is made to feel really special.”

With a focus on traditional men’s tailoring—but with a sprinkling of modern style—Oscar Hunt allows you to create the suit of your dreams, and get the perfect fit too. As PK says, “What makes an Oscar Hunt suit special is the customisation, which is the client essentially getting a suit that is designed by them and with guidance from our tailor…. an Oscar Hunt suit is based on your requirements, your measurements, your styling, your cut.”

Speaking of a different experience, what struck me as I first entered the Oscar Hunt showroom was its quirky decor—complete with a necktie-bearing ladder, and vintage suitcases adorned with all the accessories a man could desire.

Looking around myself, the inner city showroom made me feel as though I’d stumbled into the chic bachelor pad of a very cool new breed of gentleman—a cross between Cary Grant and James Bond—made all the more 007 by the presence of a private bar.

The suave showroom is the perfect place for a stylish gentleman (or thirsty female writer) to relax, and as PK explains, that’s all just part of the fun of dressing up that men usually miss out on.

“With the wedding parties that we deal with – that’s a really fun experience for a group of guys when they come together. Very rarely do the boys get together for the wedding, without the brides or ladies around, and we love to look after them and work them through the process of looking sharp.”

Looking sharp is one thing, but comfort? That’s just as important. As resident tailor Jules explains, a perfectly fitted suit makes you feel just as great as you look on your big day.

We find that if you see someone in a suit made just for them, their confidence is a lot higher. They carry themselves a lot better and that’s going to show if you’re comfortable with what you’re wearing. You’ve probably got a lot of things to worry about on your wedding day, and whether your French cuffs come down far enough shouldn’t be one of them.”

So if you need to get your mind off your French cuffs, and have a little fun while you’re at it, check out Oscar Hunt’s website or visit their showroom at Studio 105, Level 1, 20 – 22 McKillop Street, Melbourne.
