Jo & Matt

It seems only fitting after a week of heat waves, to share a Darwin celebration. This sweet Darwin wedding embraces the heat and turns it into something beautiful, all captured wonderfully by photographer Josh Wood of Joshua Kane Photography.

Teenage loves, Jo tells of how they met. “We met as 15 and 16 year olds at Matt’s cousin’s party… Matt’s cousin, Josh Wood, who was our amazing photographer at our wedding!”

Jo chose a gown from Just Formals with her bridesmaids wearing gowns from Asos.

Jo and Matt chose George Brown Botanical Gardens for their ceremony, Jo telling, “The George Brown Botanical gardens was a wonderful spot to get married, we picked the Heritage Lawn, so by 4:30pm there was a lot of shade and the back drop was a beautiful bright red Ginger Tree.”

For her walk down the aisle, Jo remembers, “I walked down the aisle to ‘Don’t you think it’s time’ by Bob Evans. I didn’t go out looking for the right song, I heard this one on the radio one day and knew it was the one I would use.”

Of their photographer, Jo tells, “Josh and Matt spent a lot of time together growing up so having someone we knew just made it so comfortable for us. Josh is extremely professional, he has this ability to make you feel super comfortable and confident during the shoot. He flew all the way to Darwin to shoot our wedding and with hardly anytime to prepare (and in a totally unfamiliar city!) he produced these amazing shots, kept everyone calm and was so time efficient. I get so many compliments on our photos, I would recommend this guy to EVERYONE! He is an absolute pro and we love him for the amazing gift he has given us, something we can look back on and treasure for ever. ”

Jo and Matt held their reception at Tims Surf ‘n’ Turf. Jo remarking, “We hired out the restaurant for the night and a buffet, outdoor seating and beautiful lantern lighting up the night was perfect for our smart but casual wedding.”

Guests received homemade treats as favors. “Our bonbonneries were little jam jars. The plum jam was home-made by Matt’s Aunty. The jars were decorated by us, we used them as not only a thank you but also the name card so everyone could find their own seat.”

Of the wedding, Jo notes ,”It was exactly what we wanted it to be, casual, fun, celebrated with family and friends, delicious food and lots of dancing. Our perfect night.”

The first dance was just about having fun, Jo remembering, “We picked ‘If I had you’ by Sam Cooke we were both so nervous about dancing in front of everyone and left it too late to get lessons but on the day we just forgot about everyone else and enjoyed being alone (kind of alone!) for those few minutes.”

Congratulations Jo and Matt! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Josh Wood of Joshua Kane Photography for sharing today’s celebration with us!
