Phoebe and Matt

With amazing food and wine a priority for their wedding, Phoebe and Matt made choosing a restaurant that did just that, for their Brisbane wedding. Captured by Quince & Mulberry Studios, the couple kept their Spring wedding bright and breezy with navy and the bright colour tones of poppies.

Phoebe starts us off with their story. “Matt and I met through a very good friend, Dan. Matt and Dan were living together and Dan and I were working together. After months of missed opportunities our paths finally met and we both felt a buzz immediately. We’ve been inseparable ever since.”

The groom and groomsmen wore navy suits from Gibson.

Bright poppies were the order of the day, all arranged by the bride and bridal party Phoebe remembering, “I did my own hair for the day, which was a really great distraction for me in the lead up to the ceremony when those butterflies start to kick in. My mum, two of bridesmaids and I made the bouquets for all the bridesmaids, flower girls and I and the button-holes for all the boys.”

Phoebe and Matt chose Brisbane Botanic Gardens for their wedding ceremony,  performed by Michelle Greenshields. Main Event Weddings planned and coordinated the wedding.

For the processional song choice, Phoebe remarks, “This was a tough one to pick and we still didn’t have a song a few weeks out from the wedding. One day I was at home and Adele’s ‘One and Only’ started playing, it gave me goose bumps and when I played it for Matt he knew it was the perfect song too.”

Phoebe wore a strapless lace gown from Maggie Sottero.

Phoebe and Matt chose to include elements that would really personalise their day, including a balloon release. Phoebe remembers, “We did a balloon release at the end of our ceremony, it was a way for me to remember my Uncle who passed away and was very close to me, but it was also a way for Matt and I to symbolise letting go of our past, starting our new journey as Husband and Wife and setting all our hopes and dreams for the future free.”

The couple chose to have many attendants each. Phoebe telling “We had a large bridal (party) of 10, but each of them is so close to us. Having them there every step of the way and in the lead up really made the event so much more special for us.”

Of their photographer, Phoebe remarking, “I can’t say enough about our photographer, Kate Taylor of Quince and Mulberry Studios. She listened to every idea we had and was so in tune with who we really are, she knew the look and feel of photos we wanted to capture and made the entire process so easy for us.”

“We wanted to make a weekend out of it and spend as much time as we could with the bridal party, so we got together early the day before and spent the afternoon and night together relaxing, eating, laughing and having a few drinks. It’s not every day you get all your closest friends together like that.”

Phoebe and Matt held their wedding reception at Spring. Phoebe explaining, “Spring Food and Wine is an excellent wedding venue, the food was exceptional and provided a fine dining experience in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble, they really treated us like royalty. We really wanted to make the food memorable, sometimes it is the only thing that sticks in people’s minds, so we chose a venue with a beautiful atmosphere and exceptional food and gave our guests a menu to choose from instead of alternate drop.”

The wedding cake was made special by Phoebe’s mum. Phoebe tells “My incredible mum also decorated my wedding cake, a vanilla-passion Poppy Cakes, with beautiful fresh flowers.”

The first dance was a group affair to ease the couple’s nerves, Phoebe telling, “Matt and I can be a bit awkward (a lot awkward actually) so the idea of a slow-dance didn’t seem fun to us. We opted for something more upbeat and had our whole bridal party jump and join us in a boogie to Jamiroqui’s ‘Lovefool’.”

“A few of the boys got very involved in the dance portion of the evening which resulted in one pair of split pants (torn from knee to butt), one nearly dislocated shoulder and one very sore neck after an attempted ‘worm’ went horribly wrong. Our whole day was a laugh a minute, Matt and I were so happy and the goof balls in our wedding party had everyone cracking up all day.”

Congratulations Phoebe and Matt! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to Quince & Mulberry Studios for sharing today’s gorgeous images with us!
