Kate and Josh

Beside the great Murray River, the country town of Moama has a beautiful ambiance to it and this fun, country vibe was exactly what Kate and Josh picked up on and took into their wedding day style. Mixing the country mood with their own fun and quirky touches to create a wedding day truly their own. Their day was captured  by Erica Cummins.

On how they met, the newlyweds tel.l “Kate’s sister Jess used to date one of Josh’s college mates and she subsequently moved into a house with Josh and a few other friends. Josh and Kate met at their housewarming party in 2006 and had their first kiss that night (there is photo evidence of that moment!) Josh was 23 at the time and Kate was 22. Jess and her friend had been telling Kate what a great guy Josh was and that they would be a good match – they like to take some of the credit for the relationship! Josh was quite shy and didn’t ask for Kate’s number, so Jess and her other housemate wrote Kate’s number on a paper plane and flew it into Josh’s room…very subtle! Just after they met, Kate had an overseas trip planned for a few months, so they officially got together once Kate was back in the country. ”

A friend of the couple, Sarah McCrum designed the stationery which featured a citrus theme, a play on their reception venue, which was a citrus farm.

One of Kate’s favourite parts of the day was right at the beginning – a gift from her husband to be. She remembers, “Giving each other a gift before the wedding was special – Josh had found a little book of one of the readings we were having at the wedding and along with that and the beautiful card he wrote, I got quite emotional.”

Kate’s “something blue” was her wedding shoes, she explains, “I got my wedding shoes (from Novat Shoes and dyed at Rekaris Shoes Coburg (03) 9350 1542) dyed blue and they turned out just as I had hoped. I also bought shoe decals on Etsy saying “Mrs Hunter, Est. 1/3/2014″ and stuck them to the bottom of my shoes”.

Kate and Josh chose Perricoota Station for their wedding reception, explaining “We first visited Perricoota Station on the day they were hosting their first wedding in October 2012. We instantly thought the venue was beautiful and after looking at a few other venues, we didn’t have any trouble deciding that Perricoota Station was where we wanted to get married.

The property was previously used to grow citrus fruit and the current function centre was previously the packing shed for the fruit – we used this theme to create our stationery and bonbonnieres. The packing shed has a large deck situated over the river, which makes for great views and a great place for a drink.

There is also a beautiful old homestead on the property (originally built in 1861), so we were able to have all our family and bridal party stay with us for the weekend in the homestead. We had photos taken by the river, around the homestead and at the old horse stable – all very rustic places.”

Of their photographer, Kate tells, “We chose Erica Cummins as our photographer after a colleague recommended her to me. The photos of her wedding looked very relaxed and Erica had captured the day so well. On the day of our wedding, Erica managed to capture all of the special moments without being too intrusive. People commented after seeing the photos that they hadn’t even noticed Erica taking them – she did a wonderful job of letting everyone enjoy themselves while still making sure we could remember the story of the day!”

Guests received handmade favors, Kate telling, “We made our own tomato relish, orange marmalade and lemon curd and put it in little jars for each guest (sticking with the citrus fruit theme).”

The first dance was a performance extravaganza, Kate remembering,  “We wanted our first dance to be memorable, so we chose to have dance lessons and do a medley. I was surprised that Josh agreed to this, as he usually needs to be dragged onto the dance floor! We found a great dance teacher who was able to teach us 6 different dance styles to 6 different songs in 7 lessons! We did lots of practice at home and managed to pull it off on the night (with a couple of mistakes!) There were several lifts involved and Josh actually injured his shoulder during rehearsals trying to lift me onto his shoulder, so he had his shoulder taped up for the wedding! It was heaps of fun and I’m glad we went to all the effort of learning a long dance! If you’d like to know the songs, they were: All of Me – John Legend I Love You Baby – Frankie Valli Do You Love Me – The Contours Everybody Needs Somebody – Blues Brothers What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction Time of My Life – Dirty Dancing.”
