Kristin & Scott

A beautiful gown, a dapper suit, a love story and a city that opens its arms. We’re in for a treat with this modern Brisbane wedding from Luke Going Photography today. Kristin and Scott married in a beautiful church and celebrated in an equally beautiful reception – simple, modern and most importantly, them.

To start us off, Kristin tells the story of how she and Scott came to be. “We met at Schoolies around 8 years ago. We started off staying in touch after that, and eventually fell for one another. It only took a month or two before we got together!”

The groom and groomsmen wore chic black suits from Wolf Kanat.

Kristin and Scott chose St Brigids Church for their wedding ceremony, explaining, “St Brigids Church is the jewel on top of Red Hill. The church is red brick and is around 100 years old. It is grand, without being over the top! The church had amazing views of the city, and held a very special place in both of our hearts. It was the church where Kristen’s pop was baptised, unfortunately he passed away earlier in the year, but that special connection meant a lot to both of us.”

Kristin walked down the aisle to the Forest Gump Melody. She tells, “I remember when Scott cried as I walked down the aisle. He couldn’t control it! As soon as we were both hand in hand at the altar, it all stopped and you couldn’t wipe the smile off his face! It was beautiful.”

Of their photographer, Kristin tells, “What can we tell you about Luke? Well……we first found Luke Going Photography by absolute chance. We were starting to stress about finding a photographer and were asking everyone we knew for help. We stumbled across one of his pictures and we were both lost for words….it was beautiful. To us, along with the beauty, we could see the raw emotion of a complete stranger’s wedding in one succinct photo. It blew us away, and after meeting Luke, we knew we had found the perfect wedding photographer. He was so chilled, and we felt straight away that not only did he have amazing talent, but he understood the importance of the day more than most people!

We had so much fun with Luke doing his thing, and we were warned by “everyone” that we would have sore cheeks from doing cheesy wedding smiles, but with Luke we both can’t actually remember forcing a smile. It was all natural and we had such a great time in front of the camera. Luke made us feel instantly at ease in front of the camera and it definitely showed in the photos. After we got the photo’s we were stunned. We knew there might be a few good photos, but we both absolutely love every single one Luke showed us. The only problem we have now is which one do we print/frame/hang around our house! Luke and Rosie were absolutely amazing leading up to the wedding, and Luke on the day was an absolute gentlemen. He gelled with our guests and really got them to throw away their inhibitions and just be natural in front of the camera. He also captured moments that we either forgot, or we didn’t know he was taking pictures at the time during the day.

Using Luke was definitely the best decision we made with our wedding, and we are so glad that he was able to share his talent on our special day! ”

The couple chose The Landing @ Dockside  for their reception, noting, “It was amazing, not a thing was too much trouble and we can’t actually remember anything going wrong all night, if it did, we didn’t know about it! The staff were friendly, the food was beautiful and the location at the side of the river capped off the perfect day. We had ample time to set up our venue, and were impressed with everything! The staff we dealt with, Penny and Steph, were amazing and we were so appreciative for all their help and guidance!”

The couple decorated the reception themselves, each table named after a special number to them both. Kristin remarks, “We tried to DIY as much as we could, without look tacky or cheap. The centre-pieces, the advice and thank you cards. We used old books covered in ribbon and brown paper for the main table, along with some family cups and saucers (Kristen’s grandparents). Most of the decorations around the room were jars/bottles reused (from our engagement party) with fresh flowers and candles. We didn’t want to go over the top, but it turned out simple but effective!”

The first dance didn’t go quite as planned, but was still one of the highlights of the night for Kristin, who remembers, “Our first dance was to the song Inevitable by Anberlin. The band and song was introduced to Kristen by Scott in the early years of our relationship. The dance was difficult as the wedding dress train was quite large, even pinned up and made it extremely hard to dance. We practiced some dance moves before the wedding, but I didn’t have the heart to tell Scott that it was going to be hard to dance with the dress! We still had a great time dancing and it felt like we were the only ones in the room. Definitely a special moment together.”

Kristen remembers, “When we were leaving, everyone decided to create a tunnel for us. It was a great way to say goodbye to everyone and to thank them for coming!”

Congratulations Kristin and Scott! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to Luke Going Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us.
