Ivon & Jeffrey
When planning for their wedding, Ivon and Jeffrey decided they wanted somewhat of a modern fairy tale. Marrying at Melbourne’s Carousel, the couple added a carousel icon to their day, gifting guests a USB engraved with their custom carousel icon, adding it to their stationery and of course adding plenty of twinkle lights to make the magic sparkle. They chose Pictures & Hearts Photography to be there to capture their day.
Ivon tells their story. “Jeffrey and I both met in High School in Perth but was never officially introduced to each other. We both moved to Melbourne for University and one of our mutual friends introduced us on my 18th birthday. We quickly got acquainted and it was really easy for us as we were already living in the same apartment building before we were even introduced.”
Ivon chose a gown by Vera Wang. She says, “I really liked how the bridesmaids and I shared a moment before we had to leave exchanging gifts and letters. They surprised me with a box of presents that they had each hand picked for me. While I gave them all Ferragamo bracelets but each of them received a different design and colour and I selected them based on their personality. This was accompanied by a hand written letter. “
The bride gifted the groom a watch for the wedding day, Ivon telling, ” Jeffrey was toying around with the idea of getting a watch for the wedding but things got too hectic and he completely forgot about it. So I secretly bought him a watch and gave it to his brother before the wedding and passed him a letter as well; all to be passed to Jeffrey on the wedding day.”
The couple met before the ceremony for a first look and photographs, Jeffrey gifting his bride a heart shaped pendant.
Ivon’s bridesmaids wore pale blue gowns from Forever New, Ivon remarking, “I bought the bridesmaid dresses from Forever New and they came with plain belts. I felt that the dress needed a little more something. So, all the blings were sewn on to the dress by my mother in law. I think it complimented the dress well and it turned out to be EXACTLY how I wanted it to be.”
Of their photographer, Ivon notes ,”Amelia from Pictures and Hearts captured our day. She was so friendly and easy to work with. My families and friends were so impressed with her professional manner and commented that she was on the ball throughout the whole day. She kept her energy level throughout the whole day which amounted to about 12 hours of non stop work! She is very organised and we just simply LOVE LOVE LOVE the images she had captured for us.”
Ivon and Jeffrey chose Carousel for their ceremony and reception, marrying on the deck. Ivon tells, “My bridesmaid and I visited Carousel one afternoon and we immediately fell in love with the venue. The lake, the park, the city skyline… It was just so pretty and dreamy. I brought Jeffrey to the venue the next day and he immediately decided that Carousel was IT. Carousel was one of the first venues we looked at and we were completely sold and booked it almost immediately.”
For the processional, Ivon recalls, “I walked down to an acoustic version of All of Me by performed live by Full Circle Band.”
Koren Harvey performed the marriage ceremony, the bride remarking, “Our celebrant Koren Harvey was definitely a dream come true! Our love story was so beautifully narrated and she has this romantic soothing tone in her voice. We received so many praises about our ceremony after the wedding. She was so professional and a pleasure to deal with. I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat.
Our ceremony turned out to be more emotional that I had expected. We had our ceremony out on the deck at Carousel during sunset and we had the city skyline as our backdrop. Koren performed our ceremony and just the narration of our love story got me teary eyed. We both wrote our own vows and Jeffrey wrote his in Mandarin while I wrote mine in English. He definitely trumped me in his vows. It was so heartfelt and sincere and so many of the guests were in tears.”
Flower Jar created the floral arrangements for the day – including a huge floral arch for the couple to marry under. Ivon says, “Rhiannon from Flower Jar was our florist and she had done such an AMAZING job decorating our wedding venue. She was very easy to work with since day one and always had this cheerful attitude which was always a pleasure to have. We worked very closely together as we discussed the details of the venue and she even put me in touch with all my other vendors. Our venue looked and smelled divine and it was all thanks to Rhiannon.”
Cakes2Kreate created a ruffle three tier wedding cake.
Lily Infusion Weddings was there on the wedding day to coordinate events and make sure everything ran smoothly, Ivon explaining, “I had Lily from Lily Infusion Wedding to coordinate my wedding night and I was literally relaxed the whole night as she was busy buzzing up and down and talking to the venue manager. I was glad that I had her with me on the day as she was experienced and professional. We had the luxury of having her so that all our bridal party could just relax and enjoy the night with us.”
Ivon changed into a short and fun Anaessia dress for the dancing! Of their first dance, she remembers, “We went for a few dance lessons before that as we have never danced as a couple before. It was actually a lot more fun that we had expected and we were goofing around in the studio for the most part. Practicing at our backyard under the night sky was also one of my favorite wedding preparation memories. I wanted a song that was slightly upbeat but would still be meaningful many years down the road. Hence, we decided on the classic rendition of “Can’t take my eyes off you”.”
After the first dance? A surprise flash mob! The bride explains, “At night, we surprised Jeffrey with a flash mob that we have rehearsed for. It was so hard as half of my bridal party are living overseas. So we could only have a full rehearsal 3 days before the wedding. But it turned out very well and Jeffrey was definitely caught off guard. I think he was most surprised about the fact that the grooms men were all in it as well. It was such a cool and fun moment, which was the perfect start to the dance bracket.”
The dancing (and limbo!) continued long into the night with help from Henry from Memory Box Djs “Henry was our DJ and he was a blast to have around and even took photos of our wedding venue which was really nice as we had something to look at as we wait for our photos from Amelia. We received compliments about how awesome the DJ from our guests too!”
Grandeur Films captured a film of the day, Ivon noting, “Kiet from Grandeur Films was our videographer and he is such a cool person to have around. Both Kiet and Aldin documented our day perfectly and we simply love the wedding highlight that he had edited for us. The wedding film perfectly reflected what our day was about as it has both emotional as well as fun elements included in it.”
