Nicole & Jon

I love the peace and quiet of the country and when a wedding is as remote and as a beautiful as this outback Flinders Ranges wedding then you know it’s going to be something special.  Jade Norwood Photography was there to capture it all.

Nicole tells their story of how they met. “We had known each other for about 13 or 14 years before we actually got together. We were both playing in Tanunda Town Band in the Barossa Valley. It wasn’t until nearly 6 years ago, we were having a drink after rehearsal one night and something sparked. Our first kiss was after a particularly long rehearsal (and a few glasses of wine!) and we got together the following weekend. Our first official date was about a week and a half later and we’ve been together ever since!”

Nicole chose a gown by Alexis George, her bridesmaids in navy lace dresses from Review. Nicole remarks, “My sister, Isobel did the bridal party make up, & my good friend, Tamara, did the bridal party hair, & both did amazing jobs!”

Louise Woodhouse Flowers created the floral arrangements for the day.

Nicole and Jon chose Parachilna Gorge for their wedding ceremony, the bride and groom noting, “We had both travelled through the Flinders Ranges & Parachilna Gorge & spent time at the Prairie Hotel before we got together. We decided on our first trip there together that when the time came, we wanted to get married there. Parachilna Gorge is just stunning, and the Prairie Hotel is still one of our favourite places.”

Nicole walked down the aisle to “Girl with the Flaxen Hair” by Claude Debussy arranged and played by A Touch Of Brass.

Of their photographer, Nicole and Jon note, “We stumbled across Jade’s website after a random Google search. As we were getting married in the Flinders Ranges, we were looking for a photographer who understood landscapes as well as people, and we were drawn to her website as well as the photos on it. From our first contact with Jade, both she and Belinda-Jane have been really helpful and after our first meeting with Jade we knew we’d found a photographer who was as passionate about the location of our wedding as we were.

When our wedding day finally arrived, we realised just how lucky we were to have Jade. Without us realising she had the bridal party organised and ready on time in all the right clothes, with all the right flowers, and in the right place at the right time. She was relaxed and ready to laugh with us, nothing was too much trouble for her – even jumping on a forklift for our group photos! We were delighted with Jade, she was professional, fun and absolutely lovely – and she takes amazing photos! We were lucky to share our special day with Jade and can’t recommend her highly enough.”

The couple chose Prairie Hotel, Parachilna for their reception, using long tables to seat guests under the star light. “We loved the incredible hospitality of Jane, Ross, Grant & everyone from the Prairie Hotel.”

“We did a lot of things ourselves, being in a remote location we had to bring a lot of things up from Adelaide, but it ensured that everything was how we wanted it. Jon put together & hung all the lighting for the reception. We had friends organised to move chairs & red carpet from the ceremony site back to the reception while we were having photos done. We took up our own glassware (& only discovered once we got home that we needed to wash it all!)”

Of their first dance, Nicole remembers, “We danced our first dance to “Can’t take my eyes off of you” by Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, played by the band. It was pretty fitting, I don’t think either of us found we could take our eyes off of each other! Neither of us are particularly good dancers so it was great to have our family join when when the chorus came up!”

The bride and groom chose a “cheese” cake by The Smelly Cheese Shop for their wedding cake.

“The stories from the day only really emerged afterwards! We had four  flat tyres between our guests, photographer, us & our bridal party (the bridesmaid’s car got a flat on the way to the ceremony!). We couldn’t get a new tyre so had to leave our car there! The groom managed to get blood on the collar of his white shirt, so there was a but if a scramble to fix that. He ended up wearing the shirt his brother got married in, so had his own something borrowed! ”
