Happy Monday Dotties! Did you have a nice weekend? We spent it quietly. A busy week last week meant there was nothing I needed more than to be at home and collecting my thoughts. What did you get up to?

Time for a coffee on this cold Monday morning and show off the members of Ms Polka Dot’s Directory.  We have Transport, we have Styling and Hire, we have Favors and Decor Accessories, we even have Flowers! Our vendors would love to listen to your plans and help you make your dream wedding day come true.

Check out Ms Polka Dot’s Directory for wedding vendors who will love your wedding as much as you!

We’re so thrilled to introduce you to our vendor of the week Amy Chan Hair and Makeup Artistry! A good hair and makeup artist is a gem to find so when you do, it’s worth storing their name away in your brain’s address book. Amy has trained for more than fifteen years in the industry to get where she is today, even being named Australia’s first Asian Ambassador for a global cosmetic and skin care company, DMK.

She does it all- hair and makeup for brides and wedding parties, working with each bride to create a look that suits not only the formality and look of the wedding, but their own personal style.

We asked Amy of Amy Chan Hair and Makeup Artistry five questions in five minutes:

What is your favourite after five drink?

I’m a bit of a health freak when it comes to drinks. I don’t drink alcohol, so I substitute it with a mocktail of beetroot, lemon juice, cucumber, green apple, celery and carrot. It’s really yummy, and amazing for the skin too!

Your favourite weekend getaway?

Queenstown in NZ! I just love the quietness and natural scenery it has to offer (plus the natural hot pools). And being only a few hours flight from Sydney, I’m always so tempted to go for the weekend to get away from all the noise and chaos.

Favourite restaurant?

Jugemu & Shimbashi, it’s a little boutique Japanese restaurant in Neutral Bay, that makes the best handmade soba noodles and special sushi rolls. I’ve been addicted to these special sushi rolls since the high school days.

What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?

Waffles with peanut butter, condense milk, butter and sprinkle with sugar! It’s bad I know, so I try to make myself feel a bit healthier by stuffing my face with lots of fresh berries and kiwi fruit afterwards

Your favourite wedding story?

Has to be my grandparents’ story! Grandpa didn’t have much money back then, and had a bad appendix, he thought he would not live too long so have never thought of marrying someone in case he can’t be there for her if anything happens. That was until he saw my grandma, love at first sight, he decided to get his problem sorted (well, getting the appendix out HIMSELF with no anesthetic! Mind you that was almost 70 years ago) and ask her to marry him.
All went well, they were very poor but happy with their life together. Grandma would knit jumpers and sell at markets, while Grandpa walked 1/2 day to town to delivery chickens and eggs to sell. With only little money for his work he wouldn’t want to use it to get a bus home, instead he would walk so he can buy Grandma something that he thought she would like while he was in town and save the rest of the money for a house they wanted to buy.
Almost 70 years on, gone through the madness of World War 2 together, they have their own home, been around most parts of the world, kids, grandchildren and a great grandchild running around the house. Still extremely in love, making fun of each other as always, but most importantly still there to hold each others’ hands!
