1920's WeddingMichael and Di

When you ask Michael about his favourite memory of his beautiful spring wedding in Canberra many moments in the journey come to mind.

“It started with knowing or understanding what we both wanted. As we had both been down this road before we agreed that a traditional wedding was not right for us.  We took the first step of looking for rings.  This was very interesting as I never knew that Di had such a different idea in the style of a ring.  The whole shopping thing was very enjoyable, some of it done together but also separately too.”

” After many hours of checking out venues,we chose the Old Hyatt Hotel in Canberra and this gave us our 1920’s theme for the wedding. Plus it gave us a very posh place to come back to after the wedding reception was over later that night as a newly married couple!”

Another memory that made Michael’s day that little bit extra special was having his close family and friends smiling back at him while he waited by the altar for his bride to arrive.

“It was lovely to see family and friends who could come and made the effort to dress with the 20’s theme. It was wonderful to see the kids take part in our wedding knowing how hard it may have been for them but that is life and I am very proud of them. At the altar I felt over joyed, excited and happy though I did feel some nerves.  One thing that sticks out in my mind was I remember going ‘wow’ when Di walked out as she was dressed in black. I didn’t expect that, but it was perfect; she looked amazing.”

“As for our vows again we went for what we wanted, which was something a little different and fitting in what was required by law as well.  Once the vows were over, I had a surprise – a few more chosen words from my heart and a small gift. It was a tear jerker but very fitting. We then had champagne, nibbles and photos until it was time to go to the dining area where we enjoyed a lovely evening meal with our close family and friends.”

The perfect wedding is a dear memory to Michael, one he will cherish for years to come. “Overall it was perfect in every way, and I wouldn’t change a thing. The key for us was communication and planning. Keeping a little bit secret from each other enhanced the day and added to the memories. Thanks to all, it was a lovely time to remember.”
