Nicole & Sam

I love a Winter wedding and for Nicole and Sam, who met at a mutual friend’s engagement party, this modern The Deck at Circa wedding was the perfect blend of formality and fun. They chose photographer Jerome Cole to capture their wedding day in the urban landscape of St Kilda.

Of her gown, which was crafted by One Day Bridal. Nicole remembers “My dress was a custom made gown from Kyha at One Day Bridal. I knew I wanted something sleek and fashionable and given it was winter I desperately wanted long sleeves!

I had seen some of Kyha’s gowns before and was in love with them all! As soon as I met with her I knew I wanted her to create my gown – I feel in love with all the gorgeous lace and long sleeves and Kyha created exactly what I wanted! My veil was my great grandmothers which was really special and Kyha ensured it worked perfectly on the day!

The whole process was made so fun by Kyha and her team – my mum and my sisters all came to the final fittings where we drank champagne so that was really special too.”

Nicole and Sam chose The Deck At Circa for their wedding. Nicole explaining, “We got married on the deck at Circa (The Prince Deck) – drinks and canapes were served straight after the ceremony on the deck and then everyone moved inside the venue for dinner. The room has a pool inside which we placed glowing LED balls in which looked amazing! The band set up alongside the edge of the pool also.”

Shannon from Cloud 9 Celebrations officiated the ceremony, the bride remembering, “We wanted our ceremony to be personal and warm – our celebrant Shannon did an amazing job at this telling the story of how we met and what we loved about each other. We had my brother do a reading which was the children’s book “Guess how much I love you”. This was special to us as I had bought the book as a gift for Sam for our first anniversary – we felt this added a light fun element to the ceremony. Everyone commented on how personal and beautiful the ceremony was!”

Of their photographer, the bride tells, “I had seen his photos before and loved that they were natural and so candid. We didn’t even notice Jerome on the night which is exactly what you want! He got so many beautiful candid photos and our album is a work of art, we absolutely love it!!”

Nicole adds, “Our bridal party was made up of family – I had my two sisters and Sam had his two brothers so that was really special for us to share the day with them. My best and oldest friend also traveled all the way from New York to celebrate with us which was amazing.”

The couple wanted to make their reception as fun as possible, the bride remarking, “We wanted a full band as we wanted the night to be relaxed and fun with lots of dancing involved – we had a 5 piece band called Like This Band who were fabulous and really got involved with the guests! I was also insistent on a lolly bar as both of us are massive sweet tooths – our lolly bar by The Candy Co was amazing!! We also had a photo booth from Mr & Mrs Booth which had a queue all night!”

Nicole tells, “My best friend designed our invites for us – we took lots of photos of the 2 of us holding signs showing the details of the ceremony – date, time etc. then pulled a collage of them together as the cover of the invite.”

The floral arrangements were an elegant combination of black and white. “We got married in winter so the style was very classic and basic black and white. It was intimate – 90 close friends and family all on the dance floor all night!”

Of their first dance, Nicole remembers, “I was too nervous to do a dance but Sam insisted! We danced to Al Green’s “Let’s stay together”. We had learnt a few basic steps from a friend whom teaches dancing and then dragged everyone else up onto the dance floor pretty quickly!”
