Sanne & Luke

I love an intimate wedding, because big or small, choosing a wedding that us done your way, with your favourite people is always going to capture my heart. This simple Port Kembla wedding was captured by Katherine Wilson.

Sanne tells the story of how she and Luke came to be. “Luke and I met in the Netherlands, which is where I am from. During one of the last weeks of his Uni exchange program, we met at a party as we were both leaving. We started chatting and biked home together, as it turned out we lived in the same neighborhood. We talked for hours in the freezing cold, and eventually exchanged numbers as I had a trip planned to Australia for the following year. I don’t think either of us expected to see each other again…”

Sanne wore a dress from Forever New, telling,“I chose a simple little lacy dress as I didn’t want anything too formal. It felt romantic, light and perfect for the occasion. Luke went for simple chinos and a nicely fitted shirt. No tie, no jacket – but he did have some funky red socks.”

The couple married on the verandah of the groom’s parent’s home, Sanne telling, “We wanted to chose venues that meant something to us. This is why we opted for an at-home ceremony. Luke grew up close to Lake Illawarra and the outlook from the verandah of his parent’s house is simply stunning.”

Sanne tells, “We didn’t have a first dance, but we played some of our songs right after the ceremony. “Flame trees”, a cover by Sarah Blasko – was one of my personal favourites as it fitted the Australian ambiance.”

Sanne remembers, “I loved to fact that everyone pitched in: from the cake to the flowers, to the decorating of the verandah. I was also very blessed to have my brother and mum fly in from the Netherlands. And then of course… marrying my tall Aussie man is what made this day the most special day!”

Of their photographer, Sanne remarks, “Seeing as we had a very small intimate wedding the choice of photographer was extra important. Katherine was lovely and blended in well. She was fun to have around and made everyone feel comfortable.”
