This week on ‘Behind The Door With…’ I’m back in beautiful Adelaide to have a chat with Ella Munro of Elm Paper. Ella has a background in graphic design, and after leaving her job in magazines to have her first baby, was motivated to start her own stationery line. “I decided to go out on my own and design my stationery range, Elm Paper, four years ago,” says Ella. “It’s been an incredible amount of hard work, late nights and weekend hours, but now I look back and can’t believe how far it has come!”

Ella started Elm Paper from home and focused on a natural, elegant style for her range of greeting cards, tags and wrapping paper. Over time Ella refined her style and added beautiful prints, notebooks and even a foil range to her collection. Perfect for those special occasions, there is a drool worthy range of wedding cards as well as boxed Thankyou cards perfect for sending to loved ones who helped you to celebrate the big day.

As with many growing businesses, Elm Paper soon overtook Ella’s home and she had to get a little warehouse/studio to house her stock and bigger jobs. “It has been fantastic for my work life balance to be able to leave my work at the studio, sometimes in a big mess, and then just go home at the end of the day”. Ella exhibits her range at trade fairs and there’s lots of sorting and packing to be done at the warehouse and storing of her beautiful signage and props.

Ella was slightly nervous but excited when she re launched the Elm Paper wedding invitation range six months ago, but has had a fantastic reaction from brides. Everything is on trend with gold foiling, calligraphy fonts, pretty details and natural, elegant designs. “It’s easy because I’m a graphic designer,” says Ella. “If a bride wants to combine elements from different designs or make alterations, I can do it quickly for them.

I love the idea that brides can pick pieces from the range to add to their wedding styling along with the invitations. The ‘love’ foil print would look beautiful paired with a cake or guestbook table and make a great piece to frame after the big day. I can also imagine using the cards and gift tags to wrap special presents for the bridal party or tie onto wedding favours.  The possibilities are endless!
