This week on ‘Behind The Door With…’ I’m back in Melbourne to meet with Rose Onans from The Farm Cafe. The Farm Cafe is located at Abbotsford’s Collingwood Children’s Farm and would have to be one of Melbourne’s most unique wedding venues! A farm in the inner city surrounded by beautiful bushland, animal filled paddocks and heritage buildings. The Farm Cafe was built on site and serves great coffee, hearty breakfasts and wholesome dishes like grilled banana and pecan bread with baked pears or a full farmer’s breakfast. Yum!

At night The Farm Cafe team transforms the cafe as well as other spaces on the farm into beautifully styled wedding locations. Maybe a ceremony under the oak tree and a reception in the paddock or rustic barn, they work their magic with furniture, props, flowers and of course amazing food. I love how the festoon lighting and beautiful rustic wood chairs when paired with their beautiful handmade bar can completely transform a space.

Rose tells me that couples chose The Farm Cafe because they love their relaxed, yet modern attitude when it comes to weddings. “We understand that every couple is different and that their wedding should reflect them” says Rose. “Whether it’s a small and intimate affair or one big party, we can custom design the wedding to suit you”.

I’m lucky enough to visit the kitchens where fresh scones and brownies are being baked. All the ingredients are top quality and most are sourced from local suppliers and prepared with love. For weddings the options are abundant and generous with slow cooked meats, beautiful fresh salads and harvest boards of local delights presented on graze tables.

The Farm Cafe is so popular as wedding caterers that they will also cater and style in other beautiful event spaces like breweries, warehouses or private properties. Rose tells me they put the same amount of love and care into other venues as they do on the farm and love to mix it up a bit with style depending on the venue chosen. How fantastic to be able to hire a team that can look after your guests in so many different ways.

What a treat to be able to visit the cafe and get an idea of The Farm Cafe’s style and see it carried out throughout the venue. I’m sure lots of couples love visiting many times in the lead up to the wedding or even for lunch on anniversaries.

About Amelia Waddell of Make Your Day Wedding Styling: I’m a wedding stylist and proud store owner who loves to chat weddings with everyone and anyone! I love to talk shop with other business owners (particularly over some chocolate cake!) and am the first to try and have a sticky beak behind the scenes of any event. My free time is spent ‘investigating’ new cafes, stores and events.
