Michelle & Mick

With their family in the forefront of their minds, Michelle and Mick chose a relaxed Flinders waterside wedding for their nuptials with photographer Nick Skinner Photography. The seaside yacht club setting the scene for a day that was full of humour – the perfect match for their love story!

Kicking us off, Michelle tells, “We met as surfing instructors when we were 20. We thought that in our own minds (of each other) we were dreaming. I thought he was so good looking, funny and exciting but would never go for a girl like me and he was thinking the exact thing. Until we grew up a little 5 years later sparks flew and it was instant attraction and love.”

The bride chose a gown from Grace Loves Lace , noting, “I chose the “Valentina”gown. I fell in love with its relaxed look. The beautiful front split with lace detailing and open keyhole back. It was light and playful with a splash of sexy. I wore Dear Milu aloha mermaid tanned ankle boots with the dress. I am a surfer usually permanently salty and sandy. The dress made me feel so beautiful but still being me.”

Michelle and Mick chose Flinders Yacht Club for their wedding, the bride telling, “Flinders Yacht Club is located to the South of Flinders pier. It’s nestled away from the public in serene surroundings of the bush and right on the beach overlooking Western Port Bay. It has all the facilities you need for a cocktail or seated reception and all the vendors love to work there. To be able to take your shoes off and feel the sand beneath your feet and then onto a huge grassed area to play lawn games and then onto the deck that overlooks the ocean to dance the night away.”

Nathan Russo officiated the ceremony, Michelle remembering, “We are both very extrovert people however when it comes to reading out in public we go silent so we decided to choose some vows our celebrant Nathan Russo had chosen. I wanted the ceremony to be relaxed and fun and not put anyone to sleep. It was perfect. I was so nervous and excited. To walk down and see our friends and family and then to look up and see my hubby holding our beautiful daughter Frankie and at his feet our pup Skip. We were all together and it was a tear jerker to see Frankie run into his arms.”

“Mick was so nervous he called me by my middle name everyone had a giggle which made him relax and so he was in his element. When it came to my turn I deliberately called him by a different name which he and the wedding guests found very funny, when we were then moving on with the ceremony the celebrant called us by the names we had called out so lots of laughs and relaxed vibes from everyone.”

The bride styled the floral arrangements herself, telling, “I went to Siiclunas in Sorrento and chose what I wanted and then packed up the car and sorted them out into jars and vases. I made my own bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets also groomsman buttonholes and cake flowers. It was so nice to be able to do it and we did it all the day before the wedding with my bridesmaids with a glass of wine and lots of love and laughter.”

Of their photographer, Michelle gushes, “I chose Nick Skinner Photography for our wedding as he has a great attention to detail and being able to tell a story with his photos. His professionalism and the quality of the final product was outstanding. He was so easy to work with and made myself and Mick very confident with what he was doing. I have had so many people asking for his business card as they fell in love with the photos as much as we did.”

Moreish Catering Mornington  served up a feast for the guests, Michelle noting, “Moreish Catering created absolutely mouth watering food. It is prepared and cooked right in front of you. The service was spot on with servicing everyone with tasty canapés and platters. They also helped with the bar. Their professionalism was outstanding.”

“I styled the venue, ceremony, flowers, some decorations.  I set up the wedding on Friday and put up the arbour on Saturday which I styled with gum tree branches, flowers and a beautiful macrame hanging a girlfriend made for me. I used cushions and throws to add to boho theme and dream catchers.”

Of their first dance, Michelle recalls, “We decided to start off with a Ben Harper nice slow waltz for about 15 seconds only to suddenly whip into a song called “Choo Choo Mumma” which is a high energy blues rock and roll song where we busted out an unchoreographed swing dance. The crowd was pumped and joined in. The dance floor was on from the moment our band started and finished – they were amazing!!!!! ”

Crossroad Junction  were a highlight of the evening, say the bride, “The band got so much amazing feedback from everyone at the wedding.  I met the lead singer on Facebook via mutual friends and others who had recommended him. They sang a variety of songs which kept the wedding guests on the dance floor from the moment they started to the moment they finished. It was refreshing not to have the same old wedding songs you here at every other wedding.”
