Elise & Jake’s Lush Boho Sugar Wharf Wedding

Elise & Jake

Today’s couple had their hearts set on an intimate, destination wedding for their day, filled with their closest family and friends, and their gorgeous little girl, Isabella. Elise and Jake chose breathtaking Port Douglas for their day as it held sentimental value to them, and we can’t blame them – what an amazing backdrop for their lush, boho Sugar Wharf wedding! Their wedding was beautifully captured by Sass Studios.

Of how she and Jake came to be, Elise remembers, “We met at one of my sister’s parties around 8 years ago. We started out just chatting and hanging out – he was obviously pretty cute, but I remember thinking that it was just a bit of fun. It turns out that we decided to go on a date not long after ,and were pretty much inseparable after that. He was always a bit of a charmer! When our daughter Isabella was born and that really rocked our worlds, in an amazing way! We had our one year anniversary so, being the charmer he is, Jake organised a private weekend away for us just after Isabella’s first birthday. It was so amazingly nice to have the weekend together drinking wine, eating copious amounts of delicious foods and indulging in a much needed spa treatment. He proposed on the eve of our dinner at sunset. I just remember him trembling and being so nervous, that I actually felt bad for him! In my eyes, it was perfect…”

“I had my heart set on the Grace Loves Lace “Hollie” dress, even before I was engaged. Believe it or not I was only ever  going to try this dress on, but when my sister and I flew up to Burleigh heads for a fitting she forced me to try one at least one more! Choosing a dress for me was about simplicity and something feminine with a “beachy bride” vibe.”

Of the stunning wedding flowers, Elise tells, “I wanted a really loose bouquet – very free flowing, with some rich pinks and plums. I wanted a huge amount of green foliage to be a part too. The girls at Floral Edge were so talented! They made all of our flower crowns, my bouquet and did all the flowers and styling for the ceremony and reception.”

Elise and Jake wrote their own vows for their wedding ceremony. Elise remembers that they had no idea what the other was going to say, and on the day the words they each spoke were from the heart. She will never forget the vows they made to each other…

The couple chose to have their ceremony at dreamy Little Cove at Port Douglas. “The most memorable moment of the day for us would have been arriving at Little Cove at the alter, and having all of our friends and family there with us, and also seeing my handsome husband looking very sharp! Also the waves crashing behind us and feeling like we were just ‘in the moment’ together was amazing. It was total bliss!”

Throughout the years the couple had spent a large amount of time in Port Douglas, and felt it was a great place to combine seeing all of their family, a little adventure and a hint of tropical goodness. Elise explains, “We spent so many fun times up there, so it held a special place in our hearts. We decided that our ceremony would be at Little Cove and that our reception would be at The Sugar Wharf, two uniquely superb venues. I am pretty particular when it comes to style, so having both of these venues enabled me to have a blank canvas with no set designs or styles, and I worked with Deb from The Vintage Hire Company. She was pretty amazing and I would recommend her to anyone considering a wedding up in Port Douglas. Food was also a really important factor for Jake and I. We knew we wanted it to be superb with platters of food, lots of seafood and fresh produce. We chose Port Douglas Catering and they were completely flawless. We were told it was the best food some of our guests had ever eaten!”

Let’s face it, your wedding cake, dessert or whatever you choose is a pretty fun and important part of your day! Elise and Jake chose a a vanilla white chocolate and caramel sponge cake with surrounding cupcakes tiers – the groom’s favourite! The bride laughs, “I must say that was probably the most interest he showed when planning the wedding – choosing the cake flavour! This was made by Port Douglas Catering, and it was so tasty!”

Congratulations Elise and Jake on your fabulous, family filled tropical wedding! And thank you to Sass Studios for sharing their day with us!
