Events By Alysia

This week on ‘Behind the Door With….’ I’m excited to discover a business that had a very sweet start to life, Events by Alysia. You can find owner Alysia Mattingley spinning fresh fairy floss from her white vintage cart at weddings and events as well as setting up an array of beautiful hire and styling items.

Based in Melbourne, Alysia first started the business when a friend asked her to setup a fairyfloss cart at her own wedding. “I had spent weeks trying to source a white fairy floss cart here in Australia and also overseas but to no avail” says Alysia. “So I decided if I couldn’t buy a lovely machine and cart that I would just have to custom make it myself”. The white vintage fairy floss cart was a huge hit with the wedding guests and clients can now choose a selection of flavours including a gourmet menu for their wedding guests to enjoy.

Alysia tells me that the business has expanded with the addition of vintage dessert and barcarts, servingware, furniture and props. Two custom designed floral walls, both having their own unique design, are also available to hire and would be perfect wedding decor or photo backdrops.

Alysia runs the business from home and tells me that it is the perfect fit for her as she juggles motherhood and event styling. “Often my best hours for creativity and new designs comes after my children are tucked in!” says Alysia. “Working from home has been a god send when some of my flower walls take over six hours to create just one panel”. Alysia tells me that some weekends can be challenging with not having enough hours in the day to be everywhere at one time, but that it’s a matter of having a great diary/time management skills and also great baby sitters (AKA grandparents) to save the day!

I ask Alysia what her favourite wedding so far has been and she tells me it was the wedding she first designed the fairyfloss cart for. “Looking over the year, every event has had its own special story and I’ve loved each and every wedding….but to have planned and created my fairy floss cart for one special day that was a year in the waiting would have to be my highlight!” say Alysia. “There was such a buzz when the big day finally arrived, the bride and groom were just the most upbeat happy relaxed couple I could have had the pleasure to work with”.

I love that Alysia puts her heart into every piece she creates and she tells me her newest project is a custom designed Provincial Wall. “I had visions of lush greens and a rustic/luxe wall adorned in foliage/moss/silver tones and a touch of Australiana” says Alysia.  “I spent months sourcing each piece until the wall was no longer a vision and more like a beautiful feature wall to be admired”.

How wonderful it is to meet such a passionate business owner and how lucky Alysia’s brides must be to have such special pieces created just for them!
