I love meeting wedding photographers and this week on ‘Behind The Door With’ I was lucky enough to chat with Madeleine of Madeleine Chiller Photography. Madeleine started her business back in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since, travelling near and far to photograph weddings, engagements and portraits. Madeleine says the best part of her job is the amazing people she meets and one look at her work tells me that she also makes her couples’ weddings look amazing!

“It was my high school studio arts teacher who first got me excited about photography” says Madeleine. “A school project photographing nature helped me discover that this is what I wanted to do.” Madeleine went on to study photography and assisting on commercial photo shoots before it was time to shoot her first wedding. “Shooting a wedding for the first time was an absolute rush,” says Madeleine. “It felt amazing working one on one with clients, capturing unrepeatable moments as the day unfolded.”

It was not long until Madeleine Chiller Photography was born and now Madeleine is busy creating memories from all kinds of different weddings – from the quirky and colourful to the elegant and modern.

Currently Madeleine works from home in Melbourne’s trendy suburb of Brunswick. “It’s a great area as it close to the city and has fantastic bars and cafes to meets clients in,” says Madeleine. It’s also the location of the home office where Madeleine clocks up countless hours editing and sorting through photos to create the perfect reflection of the day. “I’m thinking about moving to a creative space, if I can find the right one,” says Madeleine “but it’s got to be a perfect fit!”

Madeleine doesn’t just shoot weddings – she also loves engagement shoots and parties too. I love the idea of having an engagement shoot and really getting to know your photographer before the wedding. “I believe your engagement photography can feel just as special as photos taken on your wedding. While your special day is all about celebrating with friends and family, these portraits are just for the two of you.” Madeleine tells me she has also done a lot of portrait photography and has a new favourite subject –  toddlers doing ‘cake smash’ photos!

As with many photographers Madeleine loves travel and has shot weddings in fantastic locations all around Australia. “It’s my dream to shoot a wedding in Thailand or Bali,” says Madeleine, “but I also love shorter trips to wineries and anywhere along the coast.” It will be so exciting to see where her camera takes her next!

About Amelia Waddell of Make Your Day Wedding Styling: I’m a wedding stylist and proud store owner who loves to chat weddings with everyone and anyone! I love to talk shop with other business owners (particularly over some chocolate cake!) and am the first to try and have a sticky beak behind the scenes of any event. My free time is spent ‘investigating’ new cafes, stores and events.
