Phoebe & Nick

With the dreamiest of pale blue ballgowns, the romantic Canberra wedding of Phoebe and Nick is enough to have you dreaming in colour. Best Day Ever Photography  captured the magic of Phoebe and Nick’s beautiful day that was held at the very same spot the bride and room ignited their love story.

On how they met, the story unfolds a little like this. “We first met in high school but got together at university (Nick seduced Phoebe while he was wearing a red velvet toga during the annual O-Week toga party in her first year).”

The bride chose a beautiful blue ballgown from Emily Riggs Bridal, telling “I tried on a bunch of dresses and ended up settling on the first one I saw – it was love at first sight. My shoes were custom designed by one of my bridesmaids from Shoes of Prey.”

The couple met before the ceremony for photographs, the bride reminiscing “Jacques and Vicki of Best Day Ever are good friends of ours, which was really special and they made the photography so relaxed and easy. They work so well together, each photographing from different angles and capturing different things that really complement each other’s shots. They photograph using both film and digital, which means we ended up with some really unique, beautiful photos, too.”

The couple chose Liam McAuliffe to officiate their day, Phoebe telling “Our very good friend officiated and put a lot of effort into speaking from the heart about the seriousness and beauty of marriage. It was an unseasonably cold day, but fortunately, we were married inside next to a roaring fire and grand candelabras.

We had one reading, “I carry your heart with me” by E Cummings which was read by one of the Bridesmaids (Belinda Miller) and a song “Sweet Thing” by Vance Joy which was sung by my sister (who was the Maid of Honour) and accompanied on the guitar by her partner. As a special surprise, my sister had arranged for the string quartet to start playing the harmony for the final verses – it was magical! We wrote our own vows (complete with quotes from our favourite TV shows and books) and ended with a confetti toss.”

Shampagne Wedding Planning  planned the wedding with the couple, Phoebe noting “Everything was perfect. Our photos are beautiful, our wedding planner was beyond organised, the hair stylist, makeup artist and florist all did wonders especially considering how vague I was on details.”

Phoebe and Nick chose University House for their wedding, noting “We decided on the Great Hall at University House. We just love the venue – particularly the gardens on the grounds, the fairy lights, long tables and Leonard French painting. The venue was extra special because it was also at ANU where we first fell in love.”

Reception celebrations continued at University House , long tables set for a night of revelry.

The newlyweds donated funds to the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby as guest favours, Phoebe explaining “In lieu of wedding favours we also made a donation to the NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (something that is important to both of us). Each guest was given a card that said “In lieu of wedding favours we have made a donation to the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby – everyone deserves the right to tie the knot”.”

“The groom’s mother planted, grew and arranged all of the table flowers. We loved  having so much of the day shaped by our friends and family – the flowers grown and arranged by the mother of the groom, a good friend marrying us, our friends photographing us, it was all delightful.”

The bride remembers “It was so special for me having my sister perform during the ceremony and give a very moving speech (about how she is the couple’s third wheel) was very special – especially when she turned up in the bridal suite later that night after the reception had finished for a cup of tea!”

Congratulations on your marriage Phoebe and Nick! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Best Day Ever Photography for sharing today’s wedding.
