Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week had haute couture backstage moments, a smorgasbord of dreamy gowns and free flowing flutes of Cava. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any more magical; along came Pronovias’ wedding dresses to prove us wrong.

As is tradition for Fashion Weeks around the globe, BBFW 2017 saved its best (and biggest) show until last. The internationally renowned label made fairy tales come to life with its new Atelier 2018 Collection entitled ‘Wish’. The show was set within the cavernous Great Hall of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (National Art Museum of Catalonia) itself nestled inside the rather magnificent National Palace.

Here, Pronovias created a reflective, mirrored boulevard on which to showcase its wedding gowns. This mise en scène was lined with larger-than-life, ornate street lamps. A fully functioning wishing well complete with merrily flowing streams of water took up pride of place at centre stage. A full house of 2000 guests watched as a quartet of Victoria’s Secret Angels Romee Strijd, Martha Hunt, Cindy Bruna and Bregje Heinen transformed from angels into – if we’re in keeping with the ‘Wish’ theme – our fairy godmothers for the evening.

Yet it was up to Pronovias themselves to grant brides’ wishes of finding their perfect wedding dress. Here’s how the label’s creative director Hervé Moreau is doing just that this wedding season. Heavily reminiscent of the streams of water that arch from a fountain, were glittering strands of white gemstones that Pronovias has looping and leaping from the signature dresses of the ‘Wish’ collection. The finale dress, in particular, was entirely covered with these crystallised ribbons, which created an effect of rivulets of water dripping from the body after an impromptu dip (in Barcelona’s Magic Fountain of Montjuïc perhaps?)

The popular mermaid silhouette, accented by deep-diving necklines, held strong in keeping with the aquatic theme. Shirred crepe and light-as-air organza provided fluidity of movement to hemlines as brides walked down the aisle. And, just like The Little Mermaid’s Ariel, a selection of Pronovias’ ‘Wish’ gowns can also undertake a transformation via detachable cape veils and skirts.

So save your pennies from the wishing well. Pronovias will grant your wishes instead.
