Vanessa and Chris

Chris… A Country boy, the most genuine man, the type of guy every girl would wish to become her husband. Vanessa… A City girl, an Event manager from Melbourne.

I was always planning other peoples’ weddings, always the wedding planner never the bride… then one December evening Chris asked me to spend the rest of my life with him!

Suddenly I was planning my own wedding, there was pressure as an Event Planner, for our wedding to be perfect.

We wanted natural shots, very in the moment with a vintage boho feel to them and chose T One Image as our photographer.

My Vintage/Boho Martina Liana Wedding dress from Fairy Tales Bridal, Moonee Ponds, was so comfortable, not heavy like other dresses I’d tried on. I accessorised my dress with a rhinestone/pearl head chain boho halo from Elegance at Hand on eBay. This headpiece matched the theme perfectly.

My dad passed some years before, and I had my shoes made in London to include something old, new, borrowed and blue. The final touch to my shoes was a broach with a photo of my dad on his wedding day so he could still walk me down the aisle when he was no longer with us to do it in person.

My hairdresser, Lovalola Hair, was amazing. I couldn’t believe how vintage and boho my hair turned out and matched the headpiece perfectly!

I placed the girls in the same dress in different shades, dusty pink, nude and peach so they felt different to one another but matched slightly.

My something old was vintage lace, my Something New was the shoes (I also had a broach of my dad on his wedding day on the back of each shoe so he could walk me down the aisle), my Something Borrowed  was a photo of my dad and my Something Blue – I had the shoes dyed baby blue.

We tried to get the boys to match our vintage boho theme with country suspenders and bow ties. We put Chris in a jacket and different coloured bow tie to stand out as the groom.

We stayed on site at Cammeray Waters  the entire weekend with all our guests!

After over a year of planning our Vintage/Boho Wedding, the day finally arrived, the weather was a perfect 26 degrees, I felt calm and relaxed, no nerves just pure excitement for the day ahead. We wrote each other a card to read that morning, it was sweet to have some words from each other to read before we met at the aisle.

We matched our Giant Invitations stationery to our theme with lace invitations!

I walked down the aisle to a live acoustic cover of Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley (my dad’s favourite song).

I started the walk down the aisle, I felt happy to finally see him and have him see me, he looked so handsome. I stood at the alter and looked around, I was in awe, everything we had planned for over a year had come together perfectly. The vintage suitcases, the organic greenery, his boys, my girls, the lace just wow, everything was perfect!

I did all the decor myself, wood slabs, crystal jars for the boho flowers, doilies, lace table cloths!

The flower arrangements were created by Levian Events.

Charlotte Gemill played live acoustic during the ceremony.

Our celebrant Jill Caruana was more than just a celebrant leading up to the big day.

We got married under a gazebo with so much floral decoration above our heads. It was backing onto this amazing lake in the Macedon Ranges!

I was inspired by the Venue. It was such a naturally organic venue I decided boho vintage would work amazingly with the dirt roads and evergreen trees, the lake, gazebo and country cottages! This influenced the colour palette of Peach, Nude, Pink, Orange, Burgundy, White, and Organic Green.

We ordered over 1000 metres of fairy lights for our reception, the room was so pretty and elegant with vintage lace tablecloths and fairy light curtains draping the room, wood slices as centrepieces with jars of boho flowers and tealight candles.

Blackbird Cakes made our triple tier naked cake with fresh flowers. Each layer was a different flavour – white choc raspberry, caramel and white choc lemon.

I planned the entire wedding with Chris’s help, we knew what we wanted and it all came together in the end, we wouldn’t have changed a thing! It was our day and everything we loved was there…

We provided hangover kits as our favours to help the guests out the next day.

Our entertainment was provided by DJ Masters who kept the dance floor rocking all night.

Chris and I made time that night during the reception to have photos taken. We had a moment being together just the two of us with our reception in the background overlooking everything we had worked so hard to achieve over the past year. These are some of my favourite photos.

The entire weekend was perfect, the weekend concluded with a breakfast the morning after the wedding, thanking our guests before they headed home. Although my dad was not there to share the most special day of my life with us, that day, I inherited a new family and a new dad.

For our honeymoon, we travelled to the Cook Islands then the South Island of New Zealand. It was my first time overseas! We were away for 3 weeks and it was incredible!

Every day I wake up, walk into the bathroom and there it is on the bench, he puts toothpaste on my toothbrush every day… A fresh towel hangs over the shower for me to use, another thoughtfully placed item from Chris. In the kitchen, a cup of tea is on the bench for me… These are little things but it’s the little things that make me fall in love with him over and over again…

A video of the day was filmed by Lightbox Media.

Ms Polka Dot says: The enjoyment in planning all the littlest details is so evident in Vanessa and Chris’ wedding and their love for each other and for their family and friends is the crowning glory.

About Vanessa: Vanessa, the city girl moved to the country with her country boy….
