Erin & Manning

Gerard of Hynesite Photography sent along this relaxed, beautiful engagement shoot that took place at the share house where the newly engaged couple Erin & Manning met! I love the idea of engagements at home, especially because I’m such a homebody!

This is the way the story goes “Manning and Erin met in April of 2011 when Manning replied to an online ad for a room to rent in a share house that Erin was currently living in. Manning almost didn’t make the cut for an interview, and when he was told he had secured a spot that afternoon, he almost didn’t make it – he’d been for a long bike ride up to Emerald, 60km away, and only just made it back in time.”

After a morning of interviews, Erin and her housemates made an easy decision, that Manning was the best candidate, and he moved in two weeks later.

Erin and Manning got along well, especially since they were often home together a lot.

After late nights together cooking, playing scrabble and discussing their own ideal European holidays (which they are going on together this June), Manning and Erin made the nerve-wracking and exciting decision to take their housemate relationship to the next level.

The couple feels very spoilt that in the early days of their dating, they got to spend every day together. It helped to accelerate their relationship, and create a strong bond that neither of them had ever felt before. Erin in particular always felt that if Manning could fall for her in her trackies and slippers around the house, then he truly was falling for whole deal. And it certainly didn’t detract from the special nights when they went out for dates – their first real date, Manning snuck out the back door, so he could pick Erin up out the front.”

“Since they started dating, Manning and Erin have moved in to an apartment by themselves where they continue their love of cooking, and spend time riding to cafes for brunches with family and friends.

The couple wanted to incorporate elements in the shoot that were important to them: the scrabble for the nights they spent getting to know one another; the bicycle to remind them how lucky they were that Manning even made it to the housemate interview on time; and the tulips, because for her birthday, Manning sent some to Erin at her work. That day, everyone told Erin what she already knew to be true: “He’s a keeper, don’t let him go”.

“The weekend after the shoot they moved into their own apartment!”

Tehan and Mandeera

I loved the relaxed, day to day feeling of these engagement photographs from Amy Nelson-Blain. Amy says “Tehan and Mandeera’s story is definitely incredibly romantic! They first met on New Year’s eve in 2007 at a mutual friend’s NYE party in Sri Lanka. Tehan spotted Mandeera from across the room and thought she was absolutely beautiful. They chatted away through out the evening, sharing each others’ stories and dreams. Whilst the two were in Sri Lanka for their holidays they kept in contact and met up for dates, they describe it as, “We were both feeling something special, we couldn’t explain it. We were just feeling so happy being together”.

However just as they were getting to know each other and enjoying each others’ company it was time for them to leave Sri Lanka and return home, Mandeera was to go to Toronto, Canada and Tehan to Brisbane, Australia. Knowing that they had never felt like this about anyone before they agreed to embark on a long distance relationship. After a while the distance just became too much to handle so they ended the relationship.

Two years passed and they ended up finding each other again in Sri Lanka, sparks flew and they both realised this was something very special. They made a commitment to see each other as much as possible despite the long distance. Mandeera came to see Tehan in Brisbane later that year after rekindling in Sri Lanka, and Tehan flew to Toronto in September.

They met up once again in Sri Lanka whilst visiting family and friends, and on December 26th 2010 they got engaged.
“When Tehan came to Toronto he had asked my parents for permission to marry me. They organised an engagement party. Tehan had not asked me until the day of the engagement party! We were trying to get into our hotel room before the surprise party and Tehan was fumbling for the key trying to find it, then out of his pocket whilst searching he pulled out the engagement ring and proposed!”

Mandeera describes their first kiss: “It was after our second and last date in Sri Lanka, a couple of days before we left. He walked me to where I was staying and before we said goodbye to each other, he kissed me. It was my first kiss.”

Tehan talks about Mandeera: “I love that she is very caring and easy going. She is beautiful both inside and out.”

Bree & Beau

Leisa from White Fluffy Cloud sent over this sweet engagement session of Bree & Beau. It makes sense for their photographs to include the gorgeous green of the trees as sleeping under the trees is one of their favourite things to do together! Bree says “Sleeping under trees is the best. We also like going to gigs together. We think live music is awesome and we support it as much as we can. ”

The couple met online. Bree explains ” We were housemates! In fact, Beau found my ad on easy roommate.com (ironic much?) we got on really well straight away- just had such a similar sense of humor. And I’ll admit, I even chose him to move in over some other candidates because I thought he’d look good mowing the lawn …. ”

Their favourite date? “Our first date. We tried to go to a movie at Southbank, but it was sold out, so we walked across the bridge and into the city, to go to the Myer Centre cinemas. We got a little distracted and ended up drinking lots of coffee and then having a war of throwing balls of wool at each other in Lincraft. Perfect really.”

Flor and Brett

This engagement shoot won me over straight from the start. Instead of enveloping the sun and golden blue skies of the beach, photographer Alma Photography captured the beach at it’s moodiest. With grey skies, silver waters and a combined love of surfing- this is the quintessential Australian love affair!

The couple tell their story. “When Flor moved to Australia from Argentina in the search of waves and work as a designer, she met Brett through a mutual friend who suggested he, an industrial designer, may have some insight into finding work.  Little did she know, Brett was, and is, even more obsessed with surfing than she.

Deciding to marry was easy.  The two have been inseparable ever since (aside from fleeting occasions when they cannot agree on where to surf).

Whilst they both share a passion for the sea, it is the inspiration they provide each other that ultimately fuels their love.  ‘The happy couple’ look forward to sharing their love of surfing and design together and with anyone else who may arrive in their  lives for many years to come. ”

Diyana & Kouhei

Long time readers know I have a soft spot for colder weather and part of the reason is what Mother Nature does- golden leaves, fiery red landscapes and dark grey skies. It makes for the most spectacular backdrop! Mohd Ming shot Diyana and Kouhei’s engagement photographs during Autumn in Korea and the back drop was only part of the love story.

Mohd says “Love across the sea! It is describable when this petite Malaysian girl, Diyana met Kouhei Sasao Imran, the shy-but-funny-in-silence Japanese guy a few years back when Diyana pursues her Master and Ph.D studies in Japan. It was all started in the lab as a stranger, Diyana cannot understand Imran spoke Japanese, and Imran cannot understand Diyana spoke English. Nevertheless, the love keep growing as a lab partner until they got engaged last few months. They will be getting married this coming April in Malaysia.”
