Snapshot Sunday – Movement Never Lies
by Polkadot Bride
This photo of Amber and Ashley as captured by Aksent Photography (see more here) made me feel like I was seeing something out of a musical! I have no idea of the story behind it, but I love it!

Bride’s Head Revisited
by Polkadot Bride
Darcy Miller editor of Martha Stewart Weddings and The Brides Guide Blog, recently posted about Brides Head Revisited.
Founded in 2002 by Alexandra and Emily, after working together at the costume department at the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bride’s Head Revisited creates a range of custom veils and head pieces for brides. The range includes french veils, combs, hair pins and even flowers and feathers. Each piece is hand stitched.
The designs combine history with contemporary design to create beautifully, elegant styles.
But one in particular caught my fancy…
Bride’s Head Revisited has designed a veil called Audrey using one of my favourite fabrics- Swiss dot netting! The polka dots are subtle enough to not overtake your wedding day attire, but add that little polka dot touch that I adore. The veil comes in multiple lengths and you can find a stockist via their website.
Check out another photo of Audrey on their blog here

Creative Colour – Cherry Red
by Polkadot Bride
I’ve been getting a lot of colour questions lately so thought it was time to introduce a new series! Creative Colour! Creative Colour is all about taking great colours and exploring ways of using them plus unique and fresh colour combinations. Each colour will be accompanied by a long list of suggestions so you can pick the combination that suits you and your wedding palette.
Cherry red a voluptuous colour which can be as elegant or over-the-top as our heart desires. Give it a Spanish or Asian style edge or tone it down by just using small touches of this vibrant colour.
Cherry Red could be accessorised with:
- Black and charcoal grey to balance its brightness
- Touches of turquoise or orange for an explosion of fun
- Sky blue, ‘Tiffany’ blue, a watery ‘greyed-off’ blue
- Linen – stone, putty, taupe shades, add small touches of ivory for pizzazz
- Touches of hot pink, olive green, grey-green or deep, aubergine purple
- Silk, shantung, velvet, linen – keep fabrics luxurious and generous, embroidered fabrics such as that seen on saris or Chinese silk
- Brightly coloured paper lanterns
- Red crockery or glassware or mix crockery colours from your palette
- Pewter, brass, black wrought iron, gilding for a touch of opulence
- Vintage fabrics in large florals and crockery featuring polka dots or stripes
- Toffee apples, red lollipops, candy canes
- Red shoes, beaded clips, vintage jewellery, luscious red lipstick
- Black or red glass chandeliers, moody décor and lighting, cream beeswax candles
- Green or fiery coloured orchids, deep red roses, bougainvillea, camellias, red berries, carnations, poinsettia, fuchsia, gerbera
- Sturt Dessert Pea, Callistemon, Christmas Bush, Leucospermum
- Necklines or hemlines embellished with richly coloured beading in reds greens, oranges, purples or in black
- Vintage fabric covered furniture edged in dull gold – think of a French Court
- Lace fans, black lace appliqué for a Spanish touch
- Berry desserts, fresh cherries, rosé wine, duck with cherry sauce

Mismatched Bridesmaids
by Polkadot Bride
I still love seeing bridesmaids in their own individual styles (see last year’s multi-styled bridesmaids post here). Here are a few more snaps of bridesmaids that I’ve been collecting (I seem to do that a lot!) that have pulled it off beautifully!
