I love the beautiful fusion style Lisa and Johnny embraced at their wedding. So much colour and life and so rich in tradition.

Lisa had a very clear vision for the style of the wedding day “While in India we decided to utilise our location and shopped up a storm for the wedding. I had a very clear vision for what I wanted the day to look and feel like, relaxed and casual with pops of bright colour for a sense of fun.

We bought different coloured chiffon fabrics for the outdoor area and the hand painted cushion covers from a market in India. We wanted our guests to leave with a little something to remember the day, so we bought all the women gorgeous Pashmina’s from a market too, in an array of bright and vibrant colours.”

Tables were decorated with simple bunches of blooms in pinks and purples by florist Eufloria. Table seating cards were hung from nails nailed into wood panels made by Lisa & Johnny. The newlyweds also made wooden “Girls” and “Boys” signs and their invitations!

Lisa says “We chose not to do a first dance, because all the attention on us as the newly weds was more than enough for us without having all those eyes on us while we tried to do a co-ordinated (or not so co-ordinated) first dance!  We chose to leave out many wedding “traditions” such as the first dance and cutting of the cake (we didn’t even have a cake), so as to keep with our whole idea of a very casual and un-traditional  celebration.

Just one of the highlights of the evening was during the Horahs, which is the traditional Jewish dances of celebration. We decided to add a little something extra by mixing in a song we found – an Indian version of Hava Nagila. We thought it was appropriate because of our time spent in India, and the only people expecting it was us and my brothers. When the music scratched, they threw a bright yellow turban across the dance floor to Johnny, and everyone erupted taking the usually wild Horahs to another level!”

One of Lisa’s favourite memories was the speeches “Both our fathers spoke and then both Bride and Groom spoke too.  It was wonderful to hear what everyone had to say, and all the guests commented on how much they loved the speeches.  To keep with the informal setting, our MC invited everyone to gather around to listen, and people sat on the stairs or on the floor – like it was story time.”

A photobooth will brilliantly coloured fabric backdrop was a hit on the night- the chalkboard where guests wrote their own messages was the clear favourite on the night!

Lisa & Johnny

I can’t tell you how blown away I was by Lisa and Johnny’s amazing wedding. it was a blend of colour, culture and love with the mos stunning imagery before my eyes! It’s a mix of vibrant Indian colour and traditional Jewish elements, all on the shores of Western Australia.

Lisa and Johnny spent eight months prior to the wedding living in India and Lisa says “Our main idea behind the wedding was that it would be small and simple, a celebration with our nearest and dearest without getting too carried away and over the top with a big budget wedding.” The couple married in Perth and celebrated all weekend with their international guests ”

We planned a whole weekend full of festivities, with a Thursday night welcome dinner, a massive Friday night dinner for 60 guests, a picnic at Kings Park for about 80 guests (fully catered with salads, sandwiches and sweets!) and then the culmination of it all, our wedding on the Sunday.”

Johnny wore a Saba suit while the groomsman wore floral shirts from Politix. and the bridesmaids wore violet purple gowns from Sheike. Lisa wore Lisa Ho. She says “My dress was bought off the rack in a Lisa Ho store a whole year before the big day.  I was always sure I wouldn’t wear a typical bridal gown – and I loved that this dress was easy, no fuss and still so beautiful and elegant.

I was undecided on the veil, but about 2 months before the day decided I might as well wear one, we had to get it dyed to complement the silvery grey colour of the dress and I was SO happy I wore it, I felt it just added a touch of “bride” to the ensemble.” Thiana Sperry styled Lisa’s hair and makeup.

Lisa and Johnny were married in a Jewish ceremony at the Indiana Tea House in Cottesloe, They bought a beautiful tablecloth in India (which they now use in their home) for their chuppah. They also had the head coverings for the men (traditional for a Jewish ceremony) made in India.

Lisa walked down the “aisle” to “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz played live by two members of Bootyjooce. One of Lisa’s favourite moments was having her parents stand with her under the chuppah.

Amy and Jeremy’s reception was an absolutely beautiful affair held in a marquee at Matilda Bay Reserve.

Amy says “Because I am a bit OCD about attention to detail I couldn’t find any venues that suited the theme we wanted, I felt that we would be competing with the wall colour, carpet, lighting etc.. So Cathrin suggested a Marque wedding. Matilda Bay was perfect because having the river as a backdrop helped the wedding have a relaxed elegant feel.

Villa Kula (Vanessa/Carl) provided the Marque and everything in it. It was a massive job because we had to bring everything in, but it meant that we could choose everything that was used, down to the colour of the cushions, cutlery etc. which was really important to me.

Because Cathrin had worked with the site so many times before she had such a great understanding of what we would need and which sites were the best to hire. We actually booked out all the sits bar one so we knew the reserve would not be crowded. I never felt concerned about the set up because we had such confidence in Villa Kulla and Cathrin ( which is saying something because I can be known as a bit of a control freak)”

The reception was styled by Villa Kula with flowers by Natural Art Flowers by Rebecca Grace. The seating chart and menus were designed by Suzi of Alannah Rose Stationery. The reception was setup and styled by Villa Kula and Cathrin D’Entremont.

Amy made the table numbers using quotes from the cards the couple received from their engagement. Amy also made the wedding favors, she says “I came up with the bright idea to make homemade marmalade ( Jeremy and my father’s favourite) as the wedding favours. I bought heart shaped jars and made 30 litres of marmalade ( I will be happy if I never see marmalade again – ha ha ) I sewed bags for each jar to sit in and created tiny gift tags explaining that the marmalade was something sweet, handmade with love to say thank you for sharing our day with us. People really loved them and I think they suited the theme perfectly.”

Amy and Jeremy danced their first dance to “Stand By Me” by Ben E King. Fans of 50’s and 60’s music, the couple loved the song and danced outside under the stars lit only by a few strings of fairy lights. The sound of the river and the beautiful moon in the night sky made the moment perfect. After a few minutes, guests were invited to join the couple on the dance floor and didn’t leave all night!

It was important to Amy and Jeremy to have amazing food on the day and their guests couldn’t stop raving about the food provided by Jon and Karen from JKL Exclusive Catering (08) 9582 2409. The white rose wedding cake was created by Kakes By Karen. Amy says ““We loved the candy buffet, Cathrin’s idea, Jeremy and I are not particularly serious people so we didn’t want the wedding to be too serious so the candy bar fitted in perfectly. The florist supplied some great vases for the candy”.

Amy is such a glowing bride! I am always struck when I see the newlyweds (or almost newly weds) looking just so insanely happy. Amy and Jeremy had a first look so they could take their photos before the ceremony. Amy says “I loved the first look because it let us celebrate with all our guests straight after the ceremony instead of having to disappear and have photos taken.”

The ceremony was held by the river at Matilda Bay Reserve. Amy walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon.

Amy’s mother made an aisle runner to match the wedding stationery. It was silk screened with Amy and Jeremy’s name and wedding date at the top. Amy says “The aisle runner mum made was such a special thing for me, because we live so far apart it was hard to be involved in the wedding so this meant a lot to me. I have turned it into a wall hanging and am going to make cushions out of the remaining fabric.”

Amy and Jeremy placed sweet fans on each chair bought in Bali to ease the heat for their guests.

The recessional was “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. It was one of Amy’s late grandfather’s favourite songs and a way to have a piece of him at the wedding.

Check back soon- Amy and Jeremy’s marquee reception is coming right up!
