The Conscious Bride

Filed under: Magazines & Books, Planning · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 2:41 pm

After the wedding is sometimes an unexpected emotional time for the bride- after months or even years of planning, suddenly it’s over. This doesn’t necessarily mean the wedding was all about the planning and not the marriage, but it is an area that exists and has even been titled as ‘post wedding depression’

Sheryl Paul Nissien is an American MD who delves behind the napkin choices and dress decisions to the emotional issues that come with a wedding. Do you hate your engagement ring? Did your wedding day pass in a blur? Sheryl has written a book called ‘The Conscious Bride’ which addresses these issues and many more!

Sheryl takes the viewpoint that a wedding marks a major transition in our lives, a rite of passage- from daughter and child to adult and wife, the issue of losing ones current identity and forming a new one. The book brings these emotions out of hiding and out of taboo into something that allows women to recognise and deal with them.

Sherryl has also written a wedding planner which not only covers the wedding planning tasks like guest lists, but also contains emotional homework. Available from Amazon

Check out Sheryl’s book The Conscious Bride at Amazon or Bridal Survival and take a peek at her website where she also addresses concerns of those around the bride at Conscious Weddings which has a myriad of online tools such as wedding day meditations, message boards and articles

McLeod’s Daughters - Alex & Stevie Tie The Knot

Filed under: Celebrity Weddings · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 4:14 pm

I’m always a sucker for a wedding on TV and last night McLeod’s daughters pulled off a lovely one betweeen characters Alex and Stevie. Of course there were the usual TV wedding dramas- eyelash tinting going wrong and the groom almost missing the ceremony, but alls well that ends well and this wedding was a fairytale one!

Stevie wore a very unusual white bridal gown with purple inserts. The gown was was designed by Jenny Miles and made by Caleche Bridal Centre in Norwood, South Australia. For a smiliar gown (which comes in over 20 colours!) check out Alfred Angelo

She carried a purple and white bouquet with her hair down and her bridesmaids were dressed in dark purple gowns by Tea Rose and cowboy boots.

The girls all rode to the ceremony on horseback where Alex and Stevie took their vows to a background of rolling hills and to the tune of ‘I’ll Never Let You Go’ by Evermore.

It was onto the reception next which was decorated with soft white draping and rice paper lanterns.

An evening of dancing- the first dance to ‘Songbird’ by Rachael Lavelle and fun took place until Stevie and Alex changed into their going away clothes (a short white dress for her!) and instead of the ‘Just married’ decorated ute, took an exit more Alex style and rode off on a motorbike into the afternoon sunlight!

Newlyweds! Erica Baxter and James Packer (Photo by Tim Anderson from news.com.au)

Well one of Australia’s richest men wed Australian model Erica Baxter yesterday in France. A number of ‘distinguished’ guests flocked to the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc on the Cote d’Az for festivities surrounding the highly anticipated event. Beach parties and frolicking in the sea were all enjoyed by models and the rich and famous from around the world (including Tom Cruise and wife Katie) in a week long event surrounding the nuptials.

After a quick legal ceremony at the registry office, in which Erica wore a flirty white skirt and jacket with a bunch of white peonies. In the afternoon Erica changed into a $100,000 Christian Dior white strapless gown for a ceremony in front of all the guests (rumoured to be a Scientology ceremony) The couple wed under a flower trimmed canopy which displayed white floral lanterns. Afterwards a reception continued in the hotel to the sounds of jazz. As night fell trees lit up with fairy lights, candles and lilies floated in the hotel pool and the reception was bathed in a wash of pink light. The reception continued past midnight.
