Australian Country Wedding

Filed under: Australia-Wide, Inspiration Boards, Location, Location · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 3:31 pm

In a nod to how great Australia is (and perhaps a little olympic pride, because really, we rocked that women’s 200m relay last week in the pool!) today’s post is about bringing a little Australia into your wedding.

Lyndel emailed me a few weeks ago searching for inspiration for her Australian country wedding. Lyndel is marrying in a country town with a reception at her mud brick home and marquee out the back. She described her wedding as “romantic, rustic, fun, dash of vintage”

Lyndel wanted to give a nod to Australia’s beautiful landscape with her wedding. She was struggling with colour and finding inspiration. (On that note, if you’re an Australian florist- please send an email my way, especially if you’ve worked with natives! polkadotbride@gmail.com)

We had thoughts of old teapots, vintage tin pails collected from antique stores filled with natives. Candlelight, flowing gowns, a lounge area using vintage and modern furniture, jazz music, eucalyptus leaves and good Australian wine. Lyndel wanted to keep it glamorous and wear a birdcage veil with her white gown. Adding chandeliers, a little sparkle here and there, fascinators for the bridesmaids and some gorgeous shoes will do the trick.

The first concept for Lyndel was using gray, chocolate brown and white.

Magazine, fabric from Joel Dewberry, marquee from brides.com, gown from Luci Di Bella, table from brides.com, Australian native orchid flowers from The Bird and The Beads

The second board (and the one Lyndel chose) incorporated the unusual red of the leucadendron flower (which could be South African but Aussies claim it as our own) as an accent to taupe and chocolate brown.

  6. Ooooh, wow, classy and comfortable! This is one of those weddings where the guests return home thinking; “my, my, that was the most fun I’ve had at a wedding in a long time”. I always feel like weddings can get to that point where we’re just going through the motions, and traditions… which is why I love these types of weddings!

hehe, okay, sorry for the mini lecture.
