Blooming Brides can turn into Bridezillas if their Bonbonnerie isn’t the perfect hue of Blue, the Boutonniere is Broken or a Beauty treatment is out of their Budget. ~ Choosing flowers is one of the most enjoyable parts of wedding planning. The scents, the shapes and the luscious blooms are such a nice addition to your wedding day. Tying together a bouquet doesn’t have to be ‘just another detail’ but can be personalised to set off your dress, contrast the flowers, tie into your ‘look’ and even create a whimsical touch.
This bouquet from the Caitlin and Tom’s wedding on theknot.com was tied with satin ribbon and secured with pearl pins. Whilst there are many different variations in bouquets- from flowers to shapes to size and more. There are also different ways a bouquet can be pulled together. This is only limited by your imagination! From a tie of simple ribbon, to the use of textures like rope and beads. Rebecca Romijin had her bouquet tied with green and white gingham fabric to match her relaxed country theme for her wedding to Jerry O’Connell (Photo by Joe Bussinik). Adds a whimsical touch don’t you think? It also shows that bouquet wrapping can be more causal and still look gorgeous.
An antique ‘tussie mussie’ was used in Victorian times. The name for the bouquet holder has evolved from name of a small bouquet of flowers and haerbs- also known as a tussie mussie. This can be sweet vintage touch to your bouquet. I’m surprised to see the bias cut, backless silk gown beat Marilyn Monroe’s Seven Year Itch Dress but perhaps this season’s lust for jewel colours and greens set the trend? These green bouquets from theknot would look gorgeous if you used the shade for your wedding

The Knot’s ultimate Wedding Flower Guide is the must use tool for any bride who has no idea about flowers! The guide lets you search flowers by arrangement (bouquets, centrepieces etc), colour (from pink to white) and bloom. Perfect! If you love the look of flowers but have limited knowledge each flower comes with its own page telling you of the flowers origin, it’s season (remember the seasons listed will be northern hemisphere), scent, meaning, price guide & colour. I love sweet peas and the knot tells me the meaning of the flower is ‘everlasting pleasures’ I of course, had to test this nifty tool out. A search for pink flowers displayed beautiful styles like these.

I visited a nursery last week and came across this glorious looking plant . Further inspection revealed it was called ‘Summer Sun’ and is an Australian native. The technical term for it is ‘lot laureolum x strobilinum’ and it also comes in a yellow leaf/red centre variety, Australia is so lucky to have such glorious flowers and they’re perfect for a wedding bouquet. The rich reds of a flower like the waratah and the striking yellows of wattle.
Bouquet of natives from Flowers For Everyone, Princess Mary of Denmark chose Australian Eucalyptus in her bouquet for her marriage to Prince Frederik as homage to her Australian heritage (Photo from smh.com.au), wrapped in paperbark, an arrangement of proteas, gum nuts, dryandra & green berry by The Flower Man, native arrangement featuring orange banksias from Enchanted Rose, native in bloom by Rosa Flora Flowers & a golden toned bouquet from McGrath Hill Florist A wedding based around beautiful Australian blooms can lead to many possibilities- rust toned bridesmaids gowns with a bride in dull gold, a table of favourite desserts like lamingtons, pavlova and more. An outdoor marquee with a bonfire. The scent of eucalyptus & gumnuts scattered across tables. September 18, 2007Modern Spring Bouquet

I love flowers and am personally a big fan of the real thing! (The silk Vs real debate can be left for another time!) The typical arrangements of flowers used for a wedding are: Bridal Bouquet
Boutonnieres (also known as buttonholes)
The optional extras are: Hair Flowers

Your flowers, where they go and what you choose is simply limited by your imagination (and the season!) The possibilities are endless- bouquets can be a posy or a trailing one. Flower girls can hold flower balls or a basket of petals- that’s just the beginning! Flowers are a beautiful way to add colour, scent and style to any wedding. |
