Sarah’s Nautical Nuptials

Filed under: Inspiration Boards · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 3:14 pm

Sarah emailed me recently looking for inspiration for her nautical inspired wedding. Her colour palette is pink, white and navy and she’d like to dress her bridesmaids in tea length dresses with the groomsmen in navy sport coats with khakis.

Aussie’s tend to go with beach styling rather than nautical. So I suppose this is my Australian take on the classic nautical wedding.

Allison’s Green & Pink Soiree

Filed under: Inspiration Boards · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 3:35 pm

Polka Dot Bride reader Allison has her heart set on the Maggie Sottero Rasharna wedding gown in pink, but she’s already planned her whole wedding around green and wasn’t sure if the pink and green would work. She loves the green Two Birds Bridesmaid gown in green so I put the two together in her green & pink soiree board.

Allison and her fiancee are marrying on his parent’s acreage and planning their own melon cocktails!

Jodi’s Garden Sunshine Wedding

Filed under: Inspiration Boards · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 3:32 pm

Ever so patient Polka Dot Bride reader Jodi is planning a a very relaxed wedding on Queensland’s north coast.. A horticulturist, Jodi loves daisies and all things natural but isn’t into anything too girly! A subtle colour scheme of latte, yellow and cream dominates but as Jodi isn’t into anything too “matchy matchy”, the additioon of greenery and the blue of the ocean.

Her fiance is planning to wear sneakers, a vest and a ha. The couple is all about comfort! Silk pillow lollies and pots of herbs are the favor of the day and a photo studio set up in similar style to Lena Corwin. Rose & Ruby makes an appearance again with Jodi’s favourite gown Lust & Lace

* 45ml vodka
* 30ml Cointreau
* Squeeze of fresh lime juice or a dash of fresh lime juice cordial
* Ice cubes
* 2 lime slices, to serve

1. Pour the cranberry juice, vodka, Cointreau and lime juice or cordial into a cocktail shaker. Add ice cubes, cover and shake from the shoulder for 30 seconds or until well chilled.
2. Pour into glasses and serve immediately with a lime slice

Recipe from Taste, Cosmopolitan from All Cocktail Recipes

A Cosmopolitan is a cocktail consisting of vodka, cointreau or triple sec, cranberry juice with a dash of lime juice. Its colour is vibrant and so it is fitting that this cocktail has recently gained popularity through ‘Sex and The City’ series.

Envision a chic, art deco New York style wedding with a twist. A  A loft style room with big open windows, or inner city bar with plenty of lounges and cushions all following a glamorous ceremony in a theatrical style church overflowing with brilliant architecture. The venues must be grand while maintaining the city style glamour. Dress code is of course black tie!

The colour palette is the urban black and whites. Bring in neutrals like oysters, greys and champagnes. For a little hint of colour try fuchsia (reminiscent of the Cosmopolitan itself!) or bold jewel tones like reds and blue.

The bride in a gown that is like no other and unique to her personal style, a massive skirt, a one shouldered frock- a gown that hints at couture and is traditional with a twist. Of course there must be shoes- as high as possible and preferably by a designer with a name beginning with M. Bridesmaids (f which one can only presume there will be many!)  in bold jeweled tone gowns or subtle neutrals- champagnes, oysters, soft pinks and creams- all are different and all suit the individual girl’s personality.

Hair is swept up in the most elegant of styles or blow dried to perfection, a big flower with a big veil or headpiece with glamorous jewels to accompany.

Big blowsy peonies, roses, trailing jasmine, rose buds, snow drops – concentrate on perfume as well as colour and abundance. We envisage your floral arrangements taking centre stage on tables, on an arch in the garlands hanging from the ceiling, in large urns - with the emphasis being on the pink and cream flowers rather than on the foliage. Chandeliers, black crystal, shimmering table cloths

Your food should be presented elegantly on silver platters or white china and should consist of interesting and delicate flavours rather than robust, heartily flavoured dishes. A towering tiered wedding cake with the detail only in extravagant icing designs. For a fun twist, serve cupcakes ala Magnolia Bakery at each guests plate. Champagne is flowing, as are the martinis!

For a devotee fan and romantic, the reading from the show could be a nod during your ceremony.

His hello was the end of her endings
Her laugh was their first step down the aisle
His hand would be hers to hold forever
His forever was as simple as her smile
He said she was what was missing
She said instantly she knew
She was a question to be answered
And his answer was “I do”

For music, think of a swinging jazz band and then hire a fantastic DJ to get everyone on the dancefloor.

This is a wedding where you will have to just love pink and your groom will have to be the tolerant sort! But if you want to call on your inner ‘Sex and The City’, then this is for you!

This is the last Cocktail Celebration for a little while- I have some gorgeous reader boards I need to spend some time on! But Cocktail Celebrations will definately be back and as always I’m open to your requests!

Pimms No. 1 Cup is a delectable English cocktail particularly suited to warm summer days and afternoon weddings. Based on gin, with dry ginger ale, lemonade, and apple, lemon, orange and cucumber sticks garnished with mint this cocktail conjures up long balmy afternoons, cotton or muslin summer dresses, summer hats and the genteel game of croquet on a wide green lawn. Lots of white chairs arranged casually in groups around the garden, the sound of water falling in a fountain, hydrangeas, roses, peonies arranged in casual billowing posies. Large shady English trees, with tables underneath, with floral sprigged cloths and delicate china, dainty teacups, creamers and teapots, silver spoons, beautiful serving dishes.

Of course a variety of elegant foods such as petit fours, cucumber sandwiches, delicate sponge cakes, berries and cream, strawberries dipped in chocolate, scones, lemon curd filled tarts, and English trifle would be served to further heighten the ‘English tea’ feel. A variety of beautiful teas and coffees would be offered, along with fruit punch in an elegant glass bowl, and of course who could forget the pink sparkling wine or champagne!

For fun, you could serve a variety of Pimms recipes such as the ‘Wimbledon Cup’ from Drinks Mixer which consists of Pimms gin, more gin, strawberry syrup, mandarin juice and double cream. Serve fat flavourful strawberries and cream with this cocktail - if you close your eyes you could well believe that you are in England at Wimbledon! Other Pimms (numbers 2 through to 6) are based on other spirits such as Scotch and vodka and you could offer the makings of the cocktails suited to these.

Your dress could feature hail spot muslin, your bridesmaids could wear dresses of a vintage feel floral cotton with wide skirts, coloured shoes and satin bowed waists. Your groom could be in a dark suit to add to the elegant feel, or in a light summer linen number for comfort.
Enjoy the return of restraint and elegance!
